Weekly wrap : The big apple

This was one of the busiest weeks I have had in a very long time, both personally and professionally. After my 15K race  on Sunday, I had to pack as I was traveling for work, leaving early Tuesday.

I was in Barcelona on Tuesday & Wednesday and flew to NYC that evening, for Thursday and Friday meetings. We have been having such crappy weather here in France that I was thrilled to finally have some heat and summer like weather. While lots of people are not thrilled with the humidity, I was so happy to feel like summer had started.

So here are some random things about my short – but busy – few days in the big apple.

Family. My mom (on the right) and aunt came and joined me. They stayed with me and toured the city while I  worked, but we got to see each other evenings and spend Saturday together. The photo looks kind of funny because I am holding my selfie stick.

City lights. I took an evening bus tour. It was warm out, so we sat on the top of the bus and had GREAT views of the city and skyline.

Central Park. I hadn’t been to the park in years. There was a 5 mile race Saturday morning (recap coming soon) I had signed up for, so not only did I enjoy running around the park, but then added on another 2 miles of walking to explore other parts.

5 + 2 + 6 ! After my 5 mile race, 2 mile walk in the park, I continued to walk and added on another 6  miles over the next few hours. I walked from the top of Central Park down to 20th street.

Subway. While I walked a lot, I did use the subway a bit. It is so confusing. If someone could explain it simply to me, or recommend a website where it is explained in lay man terms, I would be grateful.

Planking and push ups. None !

Running ? Not much !

Bloggers. When I had mentioned a while back I was going to NYC, Darlene from My first 5K reached out and we decided to meet for dinner on Friday. To my surprise, she brought Judy from Chocolate Runs Judy. We had a great dinner and it was so much fun talking about running, blogging, NYC and life in general. (apologies to both these ladies that I can not link to their blogs. Since wordpress updated a while back, I have been having issues linking to any new content 🙁 sorry)

I got back to France on Sunday, ready to attack the week after getting caught up on laundry, cleaning, and all those other fun household tasks that don’t get done while you are away.

And that’s a wrap !

I am linking up with Holly and Tricia at Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap.

Do you know how the NYC subway works ? Ever run in Central  Park ?

I’m with you on NYC having one if the most confusing subways. It always blows my mind how long subways have been around!

No worries on the linking. I do most of my blogging on my desktop, not in the app but just via signing into WP via a web page — it hasn’t changed the way I link. Yet. I think I read at one point that you can now just cut & paste links into the page directly?

It was great to meet you & glad the weather cooperated.

You & Darlene are energizer bunnies! Darlene didn’t bring me, I invited myself. 😉 I do that sometimes.

Glad you invited yourself. It was so much fun ! I need to figure out the WP thing….

Oh my gosh, what a week! Barcelona, NYC, and home again! And you got your laundry done! Can’t wait to hear more about Central Park. Addling links in the WP update works for me, but it’s more cumbersome and I don’t like it!

Yes, crazy week. Things should calm down Wednesday. Crazy about WP, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Just can not figure out why.

Busy Busy Busy!!! And dinner with Darlene & Judy???? #jealous I’ve only been to NYC once, and it was with a 4-month old (and I wasn’t a runner then). I’d love to go back!!

Oh what an awesome world tour you are having! Barcelona, France, NYC!! I am so envious of all of that traveling!

And meeting other bloggers! how cool is that!

Do you have the subway app on your phone? or google maps? Google maps tells me exactly which train to get in and when it’s coming, it’s pretty cool.

I downloaded the subway app but not sure if it is the right one. Its not very interactive. Didn’t know Google maps could give information on trains. Hhmmm… going to look into that.

Seeing the 3 of you together on IG was such a fun surprise! How great you met up. People laugh at me for enjoying those bus tours but I think they are awesome. I have run in CP and I hope to again someday. Bummer your weather in France is not summery but cool and overcast will be perfect for NYCM training. ; )

I’ve run in Central Park with my sister and it’s one of my favorite memories. It’s wonderful your Mom and Aunt were able to join you on this trip. I’ve done the double deck bus tour a couple of times. You get to see so much and we were able to hop on and off wherever we needed. How fun you were able to meet up with Darlene and Judy. I’m supposed to meet both of them later this year. Thanks for linking with us Karen!

So touristy, but the bus is the best way to see the city I think. Hope you get to meet Judy and Darlene. Talking about running and blogging is always fun.

At first, I thought I already read this post because I knew I saw that last picture! It was on Judy’s page. Don’t you just love meeting online friends in real life? I do. Since we have the same interests and “talk” almost everyday, it’s cool to meet up. You sure made the most of your time in NYC. That’s great. I want to go there to see my brother sometime soon. He’s been living there for about a year now. Have a great rest of the week Karen!

It was really fun meeting up with Darlene and Judy. You should go to NY. I love that city. Can’t wait to go back for the marathon, and I will be with my husband.

I did, LOVED running in Central Park.

There used to be an app called HopStop but it doesn’t work anymore. I just use Googla Maps and it tells where to go. Yes, the NYC subways make no sense. I love those bus tours. So glad you had nice weather. Tell your mother that she looks like your sister.

The highlight of the day was meeting you. Looking forward to November. Maybe someday I’ll get to Paris.

Yes, maybe one day in Paris ! Need to find a race, and come off season. Paris Versailles in 2017 ?
