Weekly wrap : one week post marathon

Well, one week after the marathon and I am still on my marathon high. If you missed it, you can read my race recap here.

As part of my training plan, there is a 3 week recovery plan, so I exercised 6 days this week, either a walk or run/walk. I was a little stiff Monday and Tuesday but the walking helped get the blood circulating and I am sure it helped with a speedy recovery.

  • Monday : 45 minute walk
  • Tuesday : 30 minute run/walk
  • Wednesday : 60 minute walk (treadmill)
  • Thursday : 45 minute run/walk (treadmill)
  • Friday : 8 mile urban hike
  • Saturday : rest
  • Sunday : 90 minute walk

I flew to the US for work on Tuesday and will be here until Wednesday of this coming week. I spent the weekend with my brother and sister in law in Baltimore, we hadn’t seen each other in over a year and I hadn’t been to Baltimore in over 10 years. The timing was quite appropriate as it was sibling day today.

We did an urban hike to explore the city. We came across this huge fallen tree, green house and carved sculptures in Druid Hill Park.

My brother went over the tree, my SIL and I went around it.

We made our way to the harbor. It was windy and cold.



After 8 miles, I was dead. Well, my legs were dead.

On Satruday we did a bit of shopping. I hit up all my favorite American stores, including Athleta. I am glad they are not in France, else I would be broke.

I didn’t realise that Baltimore was the home town of Underarmor. They have a huge campus and this was in front of their store on the harbor.


On Sunday we took advantage of the sunny weather to visit the tulips.


My SIL is a professional metalsmith, and makes jewelry, so I poked around her studio a little bit, checking out all of her new pieces. Check out her website, Hilary Hachey, if you are interested in seeing her work.

We spent the rest of the weekend catching up, reading, watching golf and eating home made pizza. My brother is an amazing cook.

I am now off the NJ for 3 days before heading back to France.

    I am so impressed with how you got right back out & have kept active!

    Fallen trees seem to be a theme this week. 🙂 Ours was much smaller. And I had no idea that Under Armour HQ was in Baltimore — seems such an odd place!

      I have a couple races in May & June but nothing major, only for fun.

    I had no idea it was sibling day! It sounds like you are recovering nicely! How wonderful you are getting time with your brother and SIL while on your trip. She has some very lovely jewelry pieces. The Masters has been playing on the TV in our house every day this week. I have never been to an Athleta store but I do like UA.     Welcome (back) to America! The timing of your trip actually seems perfect with your recovery…perfect opportunity for walking and no pressure to do much running. Did jet lag affect any post-26.2 fatigue? I LOVE jewelry, especially silver! I’m gonna check out the SIL site 😉

      The jet lag has been ok. I get up early to use the hotel gym before anyone gets there. I was worried more about sitting on a plane for 8 hours less than 2 days after the race, but with compression socks, all was fine.

    Great job with your wk of workouts after your marathon. It always makes me feel better when I continue to keep doing things after my marathons as well. It definitely speeds up the recovery. I had no idea that Baltimore was the hometown of Underarmor either. Cute jewelry!

      I am feeling great considering I ran a marathon a little over a week ago. Not doing any speedwork but definitely keeping up the fitness.

    Hey, you were in my neck of the woods for sibling day 😉 . Can you believe I have never been to the UA campus? Isn’t the harbor so beautiful!! What a wonderful day to spend with your sibling and family.

    My sister and I playfootball together. We had a game today….just another Sunday for us 😉

    You jumped right back into walking. Good for you. My last recovery plan I didn’t start back anything until four days after. I’m from Maryland, and seeing your pics of Baltimore make me homesick. Glad you had a fun visit!

    Great walking milage! I know I feel better when I walk after a tough race, but I don’t make an effort to get in the miles. I think your post-marathon plan is perfect. Baltimore looks like a great city. My husband had an internship there, but I’ve never been. Looks like my kind of place (I love being on the water.) Have a great week!

    Wow! You sure have been active, that is great 🙂 I do love walking.
    You know i grew up in Baltimore and had no idea that is where UA was at. I left there in 1989 so it has been a long time though.

    Congratulations again on your marathon!!! That’s really smart to have a 3-week recovery plan post-marathon. I think a lot of folks just stop running and sit on the couch for a month afterwards (which is pretty much when I did after my first marathon, LOL). How awesome you got to see family! I didn’t know Baltimore was the home of Under Armour, either. Your SIL’s works are beautiful! Yay for your brother’s delicious cooking and homemade pizza – yummy!!! Safe travels!!!

    I’m looking forward to reading your recap – heading over there after I eat dinner 🙂 Sounds like recovery is going well so far. After a big race it always feels good to just sit still on the couch or somewhere. But you really do feel so much better the more you move around.

      I have exercised almost every single day. Walk or run/walk and I am happy to have had some continued structure.
