Weekly wrap #9 : I was starving !

I think last week can be summarized in 3 words : starving, food, eating. Seriously, I couldn’t get enough to eat and a lot of my week looked like this :

I had tried to clean up my diet in the few days leading up to my Paris Versailles 16K on September 27. Not sure if I didn’t have enough carbs, not enough food in general, but I was a bottomless pit the week after the race. Or maybe it was just that my body was craving food after a significant effort.

In any case, I gave it what it wanted, and then some !

By Saturday morning I was craving whole foods, so spent the morning doing food prep and making sweet potato pancakes :

I was satisfied with the amount of exercise (though I have yet to make it back to yoga, my resolution since the start of September) :

  • Monday : off
  • Tuesday : 45 minutes of laps at the pool
  • Wednesday : 20 minute upper body weights + 5 km on the treadmill
  • Thursday : Ran 6 km at lunchtime. It was a PERFECT fall day. No pain. And there was even a race that day, for employees of the companies in my town. Some kind of company challenge.

  • Friday : off
  • Saturday : 40 minutes at the gym, ab + upper body work. I was dying for a run, but both my bathrooms were being tiled and we were meeting family for lunch. So running in the morning would have meant going to lunch unshowered. Uh, no. That was not an option. So I scheduled my long run for Sunday.
  • Sunday : 12 km with some hill repeats. The guy on the bike was doing hill repeats too :

I also ran into a friend who has been encouraging me to come to her running group, AND saw my yoga teacher. I think it was a sign for me to go back !

Looking back at September, I ran 120 km (75 miles). Not too bad considering I had 2 weeks of travel thrown in. Marathon training officially starts tomorrow, so I am planning out this week’s runs / schedule.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend !

Here in France…the Lyon Marathon, Paris Nike 10K,  Odyssea to raise money for breast cancer… (love the men in pink ! thanks guys ! )

…and to my fellow bloggers in the US… Twin Cities Marathon, those who ran the Ragnar Relay in DCWineglass Marathon,

…and thinking about those in their last week before the Chicago marathon.

I am linking up with Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap up link up. Be sure to check them out and share the blogger love with all the other fun ladies doing the link up !

You have to give your body the food it needs to run those kinds of distances! Enjoy 🙂

You are making me hungry, Karen! Food is fuel and your body needed it. I’m curious, do you swim every week? I know it’s great cross training and I’ll kick around in my backyard in the summer. But, I just can’t seem to make myself go to an indoor pool. I don’t know why. It’s just feels way out of my comfort zone. Good luck as you begin your marathon training. Although mine didn’t turn out exactly as planned, I did enjoy the training…yes even in the heat. I appreciate for linking up with us and for your support.

So sorry about your injury…. Yes, I try to swim laps at least once a week. I used to HATE the pool but I have found it to be a great workout. I started with water aerobics, but the teacher changed and it wasn’t intensive enough anymore so I started laps. Like anything, I have seen improvement overtime and its a great upper body workout. I try not to overdo the legs after the running.

I think I am going to schedule my long runs, when possible, on Saturday so I can go to the pool on Sunday. I think its a great way to recuperate, especially my joints. Will let you know over time if that works out ! Thanks for the link up. Sending positive vibes your way….

I get that way too after a long run or race! I just want everything in sight! Those sweet potato pancakes look amazing too! How cool my 5k I participated in this weekend was for Breast Cancer Awareness. Such a great cause! The men dressed up like women and wore high heels and raced in them! I love supporting races that go to such a good cause!

I read your post that some of the men were in heels ? While I can see that happening at a night club in Paris, never in a race. LOL !

No racing for me this weekend. Just training and modified training at that. In the final build for the second Ironman race of the year for me in a few short weeks. I do get those hungry days after hard efforts. I think it’s normal.

I’m thinking: you must go back to yoga. I really think my yoga is essential to my running! I can’t wait to hit my mat tomorrow!

That dessert looks delicious! Great week of training! Swimming is my first love. I wish our local YMCA had an indoor pool. I want to get back into lap swimming.
