Weekly wrap #4 : The calm before the storm

This past week, although I was back to work, seemed almost too calm. Paris was empty, work was slow, there was no line at the supermarket and there were no traffic jams.

School starts next Tuesday, and by then everyone will be back in droves. Its like a spell comes to the city and instantaneously fills it with people. I am still benefitting from my vacation, feeling particularly rested and calm, but not sure how long it will last. September is always crazy.

So, this is how I wound down the month of August :

Workouts :

  • Monday : back to work
  • Tuesday : favored friends over fitness
  • Wednesday : 8,5 km run. Nobody was out. It was actually kind of spooky to see so few people.
  • Thursday : 30 minute tabata workout (with lots of jump squats, high knees, jumping jacks, push ups and planks) + 10 minutes upper body weights. Happy to be back to the gym.
  • Friday : very sore from Thursday’s workout. Stretched and foam rolled. A lot.
  • Saturday : still very sore from Thursday… and the day was dominated by Ikea
  • Sunday : 6,5 km run with adjusted orthodics. It felt great to be back to my regular running park and there were lots of people this weekend. A sure sign that Parisians are back.

The 2 pictures are from Wednesday (no people) and Sunday (the people are back !)

Life : here are a few things that went on. (I actually felt the week was calm but when I got through writing this, I realize how much I actually did)

We had friends over Tuesday after work for food & drinks.

My BIL, SIL and children are heading back to Africa after 2 months in France. We had to take our traditional photo of the cousins, ourselves, and good bye photo :

I went into Paris on Saturday to check out a running store I had never been to. I walked by Notre Dame and it was too beautiful to not take a picture.

Saturday was also filled with a trip to Ikea and putting together a new desk and new bed for my youngest daughter. We had gotten my older daughter a new bed back in July and we hadn’t yet had the time to do the same for my youngest. They are a freshman and junior, so they needed something more age appropriate that bunk beds. It took so long because I had tried selling the bed frame, dresser, desk and armoire but no takers. I finally found some friends that needed furniture so gave everything away except the beds. Before and after photos :

My husband and I went to our summer home to spend Sunday afternoon. We had a new gate installed and had not seen it yet :

And finally, … I love this cat picture. He was keeping me company one day when I worked from home. He sleeps on his paws, so cute :

If you missed it, I wrote a new post about preparing for my marathon. Official training starts in October, but you can find the latest ramblings about it here : Paris Marathon minus 7 months.

I am linking up with Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap up link up. Be sure to check them out and share the blogger love with all the other fun ladies doing the link up !

Your cat is so adorable! Mine sleeps all sprawled out on our porch (although in the winter he curls up in his bed). That tabata session sounds good. I can’t wait to start strength training regularly again. A few more weeks!

Cats are too cute. I hadn’t done a tabata work out in a while but was happy for the variety. It took me four days to recover.

That is quite a difference in people at the park! We are already 3 weeks into the school year, so life is pretty routine around here again. Your cat is simply adorable. I know your daughter must be enjoying her new room! Very stylish. Thanks for linking up with us today!

Wow, kids have been back for the past 3 weeks ? My daughter definitely needed something more teenager-y. She loves it. Thank you for the link up !

Ah the Paris marathon. It’s on my to do list!

Wonderful write up of your week. Going back to school is great but getting back into the routine is challenging – for sure. Today I offered to drive carpool for my daughter only to realize I had no way to pick up my son. I’m still working on how I can be in two places at basically the same time.

Oh Yes, it takes a little bit of adjustment at the beginning of each year, to find that routine…. I just enjoy the craziness, knowing that it will pass. And just take one day at a time !

How cute is that cat! I love they way it sleeps! Yes schools and college is back full swing at my house, although getting to bed at a decent hour still remains on the summer schedule! I can tell at the local park where I run the cooler temps is really pulling people out of the woodwork! Ha just wait until winter and there won’t be a sole some of the time! I love the room makeover! I too had to do that for my daughter gosh it just seemed like yesterday we were taking down her training bed…. Thanks Karen for linking up with us week, I so enjoy seeing what you are up to in the beautiful Paris! 🙂

Your cat is too cute! And that is a beautiful shot of Notre Dame. I only saw it admist the fog.

France has Ikea? Who knew! I would never have guessed. Austin got one shortly before we moved; we only went there once.

Sounds like you had a productive week.

Very productive week. And there are a ton of Ikea stores here in France ! I like going into Paris, and don’t do it enough. Too bad, its only a 15 minute subway ride….

  7. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy August 31, 2015 at 9:27 pm Reply

15 minutes isn’t bad at all! NYC is a 3 hr train ride from us. 🙁 We’re hoping to go in the next couple of months; it would only be the second time since we’ve lived here.

Looks like a great week to me and I love the new furniture- very grown up! Everybody is out and about here since school has started. In October we get tons of northern older folks that come to Florida and watch out! It is hard to get in our favorite restaurants, doctors etc! Have a great week!
