Weekly wrap #3 : the Bordeaux region

It is Sunday and vacation will officially be over when I wake up in about 12 hours time. It has been a great 3 weeks, always sorry to see it end. The beginning of our holiday was spent with my family, the second week with my husband’s family, and the third week was mostly the four of us. This is my last vacation post, then back to “regular programming”.

This past week we spent a lot of time eating :

Profiteroles made with a cannel (local specialty) rather than a puff pastry

Fish monger

Fish with peppers and bisque sauce

Fois gras with sweet potato chips, friend onions, pistachios and jam

We were in the Bordeaux region, so of course, wine tasting was on the agenda. We visited St Emilion (VERY highly recommended) for its history and of course had to do some wine tasting :

We also visited the city of Bordeaux. They have this fountain that goes from being mirror like to a fog fountain, the Water Mirror. We had fun playing around and the cool water felt so great on our feet after hours of walking around.

And we visited the Grand Theater where they were having an exhibit with the costumes from several of the ballet and opera productions.

The girls got to try on some of them.

We also enjoyed the house (and garden) we rented.

… especially enjoyed watching our cat being teased by another cat on the other side of the fence !

Exercise ?

I had run 45 km the week before and my shins were asking me for a break. With all the walking we did in St. Emilion and Bordeaux, I only ran once, 8,5 km on Friday, and walked once with my husband, 5,5 km on Thursday. My body thanked me ! It was back to the treadmill this morning (Sunday) because of the rain. I was happy for the variety of the gym, as I got to do some weight work also.

So now, it is back to real life. We LOVED our vacation and there is so much to discover in the South Western Coast of France. If you are ever thinking about going, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I am linking up with Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap up link up. Be sure to check them out and share the blogger love with all the other fun ladies doing the link up !

How was your week ? Any vacation ? Getting ready for back to school ?

I would love that trip to Bordeaux. We went to Napa for our honeymoon (27 years ago!) and we still love wine. Looks amazing!

You have had an amazing 3 weeks. I’ve really enjoyed your pictures. I would be very hard for me to transition back into the real world. How cool to be able to try on costumes from the ballet and opera! I love the sign “It’s Wine O’Clock”! My husband and I enjoy wine tasting. The last time was on a trip to Ashville, NC at Biltmore Estates. We are so bad about buying everything we taste! Enjoy your week and thanks so much for linking with us today!

We wanted to buy everything we tasted but as we were driving and our car was already very full, we were very reasonable.

I’m sooooo jealous! I haven’t been to France since 2008 and would love to visit again, and have more wine excursions.

It is cheaper for Americans to come now with the exchange rate. Perfect time to plan a trip.

Loved the pictures of your vacation! You have truly traveled and seen some fabulous things! I love going on vacation, but I also love my routine so it is nice to get back to where I have more control over my workouts and eating. Thank you so much Karen for your support and joining in on our linkup! Hope you transition flawlessly back into “regular programming” 🙂

OMG it was amazing. I had never had something like it before. We often choose our restaurants in the Michele guide and are never disappointed.

Vacation? What’s that? It’s just that mine was so long ago . . . although we have some fun trips we’re in the midst of planning.

Talk about food porn! And that poor cat is so fat!
