Weekly Wrap #2 : Family filled vacation

Sunday evening here in France, as I am wrapping up my second week of vacation. My husband has 3 siblings and we saw them all this week, as well as many nieces, nephew and some extended family. And of course when we see each other, we eat. In France, so much revolves around food. We can spend hours at the table, eating, talking, comparing, critiquing, savoring, tasting… any excuse is good to sit, sample food and discuss anything culinary.

Family and food pretty much sum up the past week.

We are currently near Arcachon on the south western coast of France, not too far from Bordeaux. On Monday we took a boat across the bay to Cap Ferret.

My husband & I, my girls & my nieces, my brother in law and sister in law :

We then met up with another brother in law and sister in law, their family, and some friends, and there were 20 of us for a picnic on the beach.

Besides us, there was hardly anyone on the beach !

We finished off the evening eating oysters (well everyone except me …) and drinking wine with our feet in the sand.

We spent Wednesday with my third BIL and SIL on my husband’s side. Eating ham we had brought from the Basque region… (and drinking wine)

…Barbecuing (yes in France they love charcoal grills) and eating dessert brought that day from Brittany, called Kouign-amann.

It was the first time in a very long time I got to visit with two of my sister in laws and my mother in law.

And after all that eating & drinking I of course had to run ! The weather has been very cooperative. I ran a total of 45 km this week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. I have been running in a very rural area and taking in all the sites. Bird sanctuary :

Bike trails through the woods :

And Thursday and Sunday I got in some more beach time :

Family, food & running… my perfect vacation.

I am joining Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap up link up. Be sure to check them out !

    Sounds like a divine week!

I lived in TX a long time. What you do is grill, not barbecue. 🙂 Barbecue is very different!

I’m required to do math when I read your blog. LOL. That’s a strong week of running! It is always fun to visit with family you haven’t seen in a while. The sand of your beaches looks very different from ours. Is it easy to run on? Ours is too fluffy. In fact, it’s hard to even walk on. I do enjoy oysters but prefer they’ve been baked. Oysters Rockefeller is my favorite. Thanks again for linking up with us today!

Can not run on the sand here. It is very fine, and the sand at every single beach in different… both color and grain size ! It was a good week. Thanks for the link up.

Still loving these pictures and hey nothing wrong with grilling over charcoal and family and food for that matter. I think it’s just a part of us to have food when a group of people gather. Your picnic on the beach looks like so much fun! How in the world did you keep the sand from getting in the food, I always have sand everywhere when I leave the beach! Way to go on still getting in your runs! What a beautiful place too! Thanks so much for linking up with us again this week, enjoy the rest of your vacation! 🙂

My sister in law made sure no one sat on the “table cloth” where the food was. We all sat around it. No sand ! Thanks for the link up.

what great family memories! I would love to take 2 weeks off at a time but that is kind of frowned upon here 🙁 and nice running paths for the week, impressive!

Running along the ocean is one of my favorite running spots, so I take advantage of it as much as I can while I am here.

Wow, this looks so beautiful! Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. I’m with you on the oysters, too. I just don’t get the appeal.

I have been in France almost 25 years and it is the one thing I can still not eat. And in France, they are only raw, never cooked.
