Weekly wrap #19 : Mid December randomness

One more week until the days start getting longer and less than 2 weeks until Christmas. Yeah ! This week was a typical week, so here are 10 random facts about this mid December time of the year :

1. My mother is coming to France for 2 weeks at the end of the year.  I had some frequent flyer miles to use so she will be arriving the 27th. A big shout out and THANK YOU to Air France because I was short   2 500 miles and they “loaned” them to me. Else my mother would not have been able to come. I haven’t seen her since this past summer, and that was only for 3 days !

2. I am so ready for the days to start getting longer. On my morning runs there are streetlights, but its still dark. All the cars have their headlights on.

3. I took a train to southern France this week for work. When I got to the train station, I saw this :

In short it shows you “What to do in case of terrorist attacks. Run away. Hide. Alert the police.” Seeing this really bothered me but I have a hard time saying why. Am I uneasy in front of it because of the feeling the country has been violated ? Feeling uneasy because I actually think it is stupid the government has to tell people to run away ?

4. I had a nice night out with my husband and eldest daughter. It felt good to just sit, connect and be together.20151212_200614 20151212_213333

5. Our town puts up an ice rink in the park every year. They have been doing this for about 6 or 7 years now and the kids love it. We would take them when they were little and now they go with their friends. It is a great way to occupy time during school vacation.

6. I had my longest run ever on Saturday morning, 15 miles / 24 K. I followed with 30 minutes of slow laps in the pool on Sunday to conclude week 10 of marathon training.

7. I have a Nike watch that is linked up to an app on my phone. It gives me the opportunity to share my run through Facebook or twitter but not Instagram (I should have this option, but don’t). For the life of me I can not figure out why. It must have to do with the version of Nike + on my computer, but it is updated all time (as is the app) so I have no idea why it is not working. If you have any ideas as to why, please let me know !

8. I had a great low key day today, with a wonderful lunch of scallops made by my husband. I am so lucky he likes to cook.

9. I also treated myself to a very nice dessert. We usually get several different ones and share.

10. I finished my Christmas shopping and ordered my cards. While Saturday afternoon was hectic and crazy in the stores with all of the other people shopping, I.am.done. Now I get to fully enjoy the next 10 days !

I am linking up again with Holly and Tricia at Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap. Be sure to check them out and be sure to check out the other bloggers. So much fun catching up every week.

Tell me something fun about your week ! Any parties ? Finished your shopping ?

Well, Hannukah finished up last night so we’re sort of done – we have some packages to mail.

I’m with you on the longer days, but really, I just want some sunshine! More than an hour or two here & there. Sat morning was so beautiful, but by the afternoon it was all cloudy. So glad I got my run in in the morning!

I’m sure I’d be disturbed by that poster, too. Even though I don’t know french, I got the gist of it.

But how wonderful that your mom is coming!

How wonderful you will get to spend two weeks with your Mother! That was very nice of the airline. It’s a little odd you have to be told what to do in a terrorist attack. Congratulations on running your long distance to date. I’m enjoying the dark early morning runs, but I also don’t have to worry about traffic or people. You’ve been doing so well with your training. I’m close to being finished with my shopping. I’m down to what I call “the minutiae”, but that is often the hardest part. Thanks for linking with us, Karen. Enjoy your week.

This is the first time I have been so rested & calm going into the holidays. I made a conscious effort to dial things down and it has definitely agreed with me.

I feel lucky my husband likes to cook too! I do all the planning and he does the execution. It’s a great combo!

How nice that your mom is coming for the holidays!

Planning and execution are better than cooking & cleaning. I always do the cleaning… no matter if he cooks or I cook. I would rather plan.

That is wonderful your Mom is coming to visit. My Mom is far away from me and I know how long it feels between visits.
You had a great week of training and completed holiday shopping, now that is a good week! I need to get some shopping started lol
The signs…I think it is more of a rehearsal thing for the mind, like police or military training. So often people minds will freeze up when they are in panic or shock, at least if you have the idea in the mind your body can react and do what you are trained to do.

You are probably right about the sign. Still not very reassuring.

I have a 17 miler in 2 weeks, slowly building every other week is definitely working for me. I ran this morning, 2 days after my long run, and it felt just fine. Though I am ravenous today !

Great job on the run! I’m so jealous you are finished with your Christmas shopping and get to enjoy the time before the big day! I’ve got to get on the ball! So glad the frequent flier miles worked out for you to see your mother! It has been awhile. I live right next to my mom and seriously we go sometimes 2-3 weeks without seeing each other. I know she’s right there if we need each other. As always, appreciate you linking, good luck in the drawing for the $75! 🙂

WE are all kind of freaked out here in DC too about the terrorist stuff. I refuse to believe it’s the new normal. I am still hoping that the world can figure this out. How exciting that your mom is coming for 2 weeks hope you all have lots of fun family time

Oh wow, the ice rink sounds fun! Is it cold enough for ice? It has been so warm here – very strange.

I think there is some kind of freezing system underneath that keeps the ice frozen, because it is definitely not cold enough to keep it frozen naturally.
