Weekly wrap #12 : Productive October Staycation

In France, kids have 2 weeks of vacation in October, so my husband and I took the first week off to stay at home with them (even if they are old enough to take care of themselves), but also get caught up on all the projects we had going, doctor’s appointments we needed to do, fall cleaning, etc.

So in short, here is everything I did this week :

  • Swapped summer / winter clothes (though I just noticed it is going to be 70 degrees this coming week, gggrrrrr)
  • Shopped with my youngest who needed some clothes
  • Got my eyebrows waxed
  • Did paperwork / paid bills & taxes
  • Went for my annual check up
  • Went to the dentist
  • Exercised almost every day
  • Had a date night at the movies
  • Did some cooking (CRAVING good food after my really crappy week 2 of marathon training, due in large part to poor nutrition). One of my favorite dishes : alternating zucchini, tomato, onion & eggplant. Also loaded up on sweet potato in anticipation of Sunday’s race.

On top of these things, I had 3 bigger projects / events :

1. Helped my mother in law move. She was moving into a new apartment, but it was too small for all her furniture. So we rented a truck and brought a lot of the things to store in our house in Normandy.

We also put together some Ikea furniture for her, helped her unpack boxes, etc.

2. Finished a major house project & advanced on a couple others. I recently had our two bathrooms re-tiled but needed to decorate. So this week was dedicated to finishing ours off. This meant :

  • touching up the paint from where the tile guy had chipped it
  • installing a new overhead light
  • putting up a cabinet and a bench
  • finding artwork for the wall
  • changing (modernizing) the knobs
  • putting up towel hooks
  • going through all the drawers / cabinets so I could install and switch around everything
  • change a fuse of light above the mirror

It.Is.Done. It is exactly how I wanted to to look.

I finished a second project also, my eldest daughter’s bedroom. We recently replaced her bunk bed by a double bed. For safety reasons we had attached the bunk to the wall. Well there were 6 big holes. So I filled those, then repainted the wall. No holes !

Finally, I started repainting my daughters’ bathroom but my energy ran out.

3. Then I ran a half marathon.

So it was a very productive week. This coming week is a bit calm, then I have 2 weeks of travel for work.

I am linking up with Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap link up. Be sure to check them out and share the blogger love with all the other fun ladies doing the link up !

A special shout out to those in the US doing the Marine Corps Marathon and for those in their last week leading up to the NYC Marathon (and anyone else running !)

Do you like staycations or do you prefer to go somewhere on vacation ? Any racing this weekend ?

I was exhausted just reading everything you accomplished this week…and “then I ran a half marathon”! Sure, why not?

Good for you! I actually have been fairly productive since the marathon…

Doesn’t productivity feel great ? I have such a type A personality I can not sit still for longer than about 10 minutes.

Wow, , you were SERIOUSLY busy! I think I need to go back to bed after reading that! It must feel really good to check all of those things off the to-do list! Congrats on the half marathon!

Your bathroom turned out very pretty! You got so much accomplished. I can’t remember the last time I stayed at home to get things done. I desperately need to but we are always going somewhere. My husband gets one more week vacation than I do, so he usually picks a week to work around the house. I love the color of your race capris! I hope you will recap your race. I appreciate you linking with us!

I have such a type A personality I have a very very hard time sitting still. It was really nice to get the final touches on everything. I think I am inspired by the house shows here… they can never sell their places because nothing is ever completely finished. So the finishing touches have been obsessing me !

Wait your kids get two weeks break in the fall? I’m curious, do y’all go to school year round pretty much? Karen I’m wondering if you didn’t get an extra couple of days this week too with all you accomplished! Did you ever sleep? lol. Super awesome on your half can’t wait to hear more about it. Get you some rest girl! I am wore out reading all you did. Appreciate you linking up with us.

Yes, 2 weeks in the fall, 2 weeks at Xmas, 2 weeks in Feb and 2 weeks in April. They go from Sept 1st to the first week in July. They also go to school from 8 to 5:30. So longer days, but more vacation !

I can not believe I did all that either last week !

i do not like staycations….although it would probably give me time to do all the things I should, I would rather be away and ignore them-lol!!
