Weekend update

Good morning Monday !

How was your weekend ? I am linking up with Tara at Running n Reading for the weekend update. Be sure to check out the bloggers participating!

We had another long weekend because of the Ascension (France is a very Catholic country) and since my husband had a couple things planned, and the weather wasn’t supposed to be great, we stayed around the house. Well, I am not one to sit still, so I decided to do some household projects.

1. Teenager’s bedrooms

Both of my girls have beds off the ground, extremely practical when they are young because it is a great space saver and in small Parisian apartments, it gives them more room to play.

Well now that they are teenagers, these beds are less practical. I promised them we would change them over the next couple months so we went to Ikea to look at options. Ikea is CRAZY when it is a holiday, I have no idea how I took a picture with no people in it.

We didn’t buy a bed, just yet, but I did decide to paint the wall in one of the rooms with an accent color and get new bedding. Out with the baby blue, in with grey / brown.

2. My bathroom

Our apartment building is 13 years old and the bathrooms have not been done since. The woman who we bought the place from had about 200 frames up and so there are were markings on a lot of the walls. Including the bathrooms.

While I didn’t want to remodel them, freshening them up can be done at a relatively minor cost. I had someone come to give me an estimate to put new tile on the floor, and I completely painted mine, covering the frame marks ! I will paint my daughters’ bathroom once I have decided on tile for them.

I chose a nice taupe / brown (” golden gray”) for an accent wall (here on left… kind of hard to see but it wraps around to the left to where the toilet is) and the rest was ” chalk”. I am really pleased with the outcome.

3. Exercise

I got a lot of exercise in these past few days :

  • Wednesday : one hour of laps at the pool
  • Thursday : 10 km run
  • Friday : does going up and down a ladder 50 times and painting overhead count ?
  • Saturday : I confirm ladder + paint does count. I was sore ! I still went for a long, slow run. 90 minutes, 12,5 km.
  • Sunday : 50 minutes of weights / abs + stretching at the gym. It was so nice out that I went for a 5 km walk on the way home. Then went out again with my husband and friends for a 7 km walk in the afternoon. The weather was so nice !

4. I visited the running store…. but not necessarily by choice. When I got back from my 10 km on Thursday, I saw this :

A hole in my sneaker ? Again ?! This keeps happening and I can not figure out why but it is starting to get a bit expensive having to replace running shoes every three months. I didn’t buy anything, they didn’t have the make or model I wanted. So I will make do for a bit longer.

5. Friends

We had friends over for lunch on Sunday. Rose champagne, paté…. typical French aperitif.

Overall, a really fabulous four day weekend that was extremely productive.

How was your weekend ? Do you like to paint ?

Sounds like you had a very productive weekend. I don’t like the actual act of painting, but I love the results. We did almost every room in our house when we moved in last fall and I concur – it is a workout. Good luck with the kids’ room remodels/refurnishing!

I find I have spells… I will be motivated and end up doing several rooms, but then won’t do any painting for months. I love painting. Its the prep and clean up that I hate….

I have to replace my running shoes every 3-4 months because of mileage. You’re right, it gets expensive. Because I wear the same model of running shoes, I just buy mine online, looking for the sales.

I definitely need to do that. I usually buy when I come to the US, its cheaper. Sneakers in France can be 50 bucks more expensive.

  3. I didn’t know you swam too! And yes going up and down ladders counts!

I do swim ! I used to hate the pool. I first started doing aqua aerobics 3 years ago, for variety, but I find the workout is not always as intense as I would like. So I started swimming laps… love it. I usually go early Sunday morning before the crowds get there.

WOW! You’ve been busy, Karen! Your daughter’s room looks great; sometimes the small changes make a huge difference, right? You know, I hadn’t thought about this in a long time, I had a time period when I was rubbing holes in the backs of my shoes, too; they were cheaper shoes, so I just chalked it up to that, but I doubt that’s the case with your situation. I wonder if there’s some biomechanical reason that this is happening? Buying shoes that often stinks! I wonder if the folks at the running shop would have any insight. Thanks so much for linking up with the blog and I hope you have a great week!

the tears used to be on the inside left / right, and I was sure it was my socks, too rough. But now its the heel… and I changed socks ! so not sure. Thanks for the link up.

    You’re a busy lady!!
I have to change my trainers every three months. Having lived in France I know well how expensive this can be. I bought my online (only way I could afford it).

As for the champagne and pate, ooohhhhh – what dreams are made of!
    Have a good week

It does sound like a fabulous weekend! Sometime a little paint goes a long way when sprucing up a room- nice job! I used to rub a hole in the same spot in my sneakers, apparently I was not wearing the correct size, we fixed that and no more holes! have a great week!

Checking if I have the right size is a good idea. I am sure my Asics were not tight enough in the heel and were rubbing. With my Brooks that shouldn’t be an issue, but it is always a good idea to check.

Sounds like a great weekend! Love the color choices for the girls room and the bathroom. I don’t mind painting but I haven’t done it in a really long time, kind of therapeutic isn’t it?

It is kind of therapeutic… out with the old, in with the new. I find change can be really hard though. My husband always says why can’t I just leave things as is, ” it was fine before ” and my cat hates it when there are house projects…. we are creatures of habit I think.

Yes, ladders and painting counts! My kids had bunk beds when they were younger. Wow, it was so difficult to change the bedding on the top and bottom. I was glad when they grew out of those. You were a very busy lady! It looks like a lot of people use the running and walking trail.
