Week of travel

Happy Monday !

It was a crazy week, so this will be a very random post.

I was in the US all of last week for work, notably in NJ. So I was not in Paris for all of the terrorist action / manhunt / killings. My heart goes out to all the families and friends of the victims, as well as all the French, Parisians and foreigners living in this city.

Besides watching hours of CNN in the US to follow what was going on, here is a bunch of randomness from the week :

Food :

When I travel my stomach gets out of whack very easily, so I try not to overindulge. I actually ate many meals from a Whole Foods like market where I could choose veggies, fruit & protein. I only ate at a restaurant twice.

Fitness :

I always take advantage of the hotel’s gym. With the time difference I am up around 5:30 a.m. so I can go early. The gym was not very big, but with a few treadmills, elliptical machines and weights, its enough. I went three out of five days.

Work was very busy, so I didn’t get a chance to do much outside of work and watch CNN. This pretty much sums up the few days :

  • It was cold. 7 degrees one day ! That is -14 Celsius.
  • We had snow twice. While I am from Maine, and grew up driving in the snow, when it is something you haven’t done for many years, it is not much fun.
  • And I forgot that if you leave a bottle of water in the car over night, it will freeze.

I did a little bit of shopping and bought some new workout clothes  and sneakers :

I got Brooks GTS sneakers. (I bought new Asics in June and they lasted 3 months. I think they were a bit big, and my foot rubbed the heal, and the material tore. Needless to say, it will be the last time I pay 150 dollars for Asics. The heel ripping happens to me on every Asics shoe.) As there was a lot on sale, I got a great pair of Nike pants, and 2 workout t-shirts.

And I stock up on crazy things like US magazines, peanut butter m&m’s, Crest toothpaste.

It was insanely cold in the northeast last week-colder than it was all last winter even with the polar vortex. It got to the -20s F in Massachusetts.
I’m so sorry you had to watch everything unfold from afar. You must have been so worried about your family and friends. How are your daughters doing?
I remember the chaos and tension in the days following the Boston bombings, leading up to the capture and it was like something out of a nightmare, like I couldn’t believe it was happening to us. At the same time, it reminded me of the incredible kindness of strangers and the strength of our city. Boston became united in a new way and it still continues to this day. That’s what we had to focus on in order to move on and not be afraid. #BostonStrong says #JeSuisCharlie 🙂

Yes, I can imagine Boston was the same thing… tracking the guys, not knowing what was going to happen next. Its amazing how people come together in times like this.

I’m so sorry about all of the terrible things that went on in Paris last week. That was probably tough for you to hear all about it and be so far away.
I keep hearing about how cold it is in other parts of the country, but we have had one of the warmest winters I remember. I love it! I’m in Utah and am used to tons of snow, but we’ve barely had any. It’s been in the mid-40s all week. I’m not complaining at all. 🙂 I hate driving in the snow too!
I love all of your cute workout gear too. I’ve been a big Asics fan for a long time, but I just ordered me a pair of Sauconys that should be here any day. I’m looking forward to trying them out!

I would be interested to know what you think about changing sneaker brands ! I am always scared it aggregates knee problems or shin splints, so I don’t change often. Let us know !
