Virtual coffee date : October

Hello October ! As always, I am happy to catch up with DeborahCoco and the rest of you for this month’s virtual coffee date. So grab a chair and let’s catch up.

If we were having coffee…. I would want to know if fall temps have come your way. Even if it is slightly cooler here, and I have worn long sleeves a couple times, for the most part we have been having an extended summer. I wore a white skirt and sandals to work this week.

Over coffee, we would probably chat about carb cycling. Ever heard of it ? I hadn’t as of August. After reading up on it, I signed up for a 6 week on line program with Amanda Tress (sorry WordPress link to her site is not working). The quantity and kinds of carbs are matched with certain kinds of exercise / fitness. I finished a week ago, and while I don’t weigh myself, I did take my measurements. I lost 8 inches (legs , arms, breast, waist & hips) and all my pants / skirts are way too big.  I feel amazing and absolutely loved the 6 weeks. I learned a ton, added variety to my fitness routine,  and met a great group of people through a closed Facebook group. Expectations are high and Amanda and the group hold you accountable. I don’t dare post before and after photos on the internet but I was darn happy with the results and by what I learned. I have signed up for another 6 weeks, starting October 10th.

I did a ton of squatting… much more than I usually did. Lots of sprinting and full body workouts too.

If we were having coffee, we would probably talk about back to school. I now have a senior and a sophomore and the school year is already in full swing. Both are doing great and have adjusted to the routine, after 2 months off.

Over coffee, I would probably tell you I have been in a major funk since I got back from vacation mid August. I am happy to have had the back to school activities and my 6 week program to keep me focused. I have not been interested much in running races, my blogging has taken a back seat, my husband has been working very long hours, I have a friend who is quite ill… but maybe it is the shorter days ?  Maybe I have realized my eldest might be leaving home in a year ? Maybe it is some kind of mid life crisis ? I don’t know. But I’ll stop there.

We loved our summer vacation so much, that coming back to “life” has been hard ! I know. First world problems.

How was your month of September ? What would you like to chat about over coffee ?

It sounds like there is a lot going on in your life. It’s OK not to be “up” all the time. I’ve heard of carb cycling and intermittent fasting a lot lately. I don’t have the time/energy to do all the planning and prep that either require but I’m intrigued!

Yes, the program did have some fasting in it too. I actually enjoyed it.

First, congratulation on your success with your 6 week program. 8 inches is quite impressive!! Go you!! Second, I totally feel your pain with a funk lately. When there’s so much going on, it’s hard to focus on what’s important to you and I’m sorry you’re going through that right now. Just know that things will even out eventually. We all go through it! 🙂

Yes, you are right. Funks are part of life. I just don’t like them !

Wow sounds like you really benefited from carb cycling! I love carbs so much I am not sure I could cut them out and in but maybe. We all go through funks from time to time for sure. Hopefully as you get closer to NYC you will feel the excitement. Thanks for linking up today!

I am sure my funk is temporary… maybe linked to the shorter days too.

Sounds like the carb cycling was a huge success! I am intrigued but hesitant to mess with anything in this last month before the marathon. Maybe that’s wrong, idk. I think the change of season, especially to a darker one, messes with our mood and balance. You’ve had lots of change. Hopefully things will settle for you soon.

I was a bit nervous with marathon training too, but adapted it. It seemed to work but I can completely see your point. I had been nervous about that too.

I think you would really like it, based on the kinds of activities you already do.

I keep hearing about carb cycling but really don’t know how it works. Congrats on your progress, it’s great when you find something that works for you and you enjoy when it comes to healthy living!

September was a bit rough for me…not much blogging motivation and balancing was tough…so I can definitely relate. Here’s to a better October!

Sounds like the carb cycling was a huge success! I must admit I’m intrigued, but wondering if I should hold off until I finish all of my races for this season.

Yes, I would hold off. It can get complicated to manage it and other things at the same time. For it to work, you need to really put in the effort.

Wow! 8 inches is super impressive! I tried carb cycling but can’t say I was successful. However, I can’t say I enjoyed the program. Amanda is amazing so I may have to check her program out!

September was fine, not great not terrible. I was sick most of the month and still cannot figure out the issue. But it was the first time since January that I finally got to relax a little. It was well needed!

Sorry to hear you were ill. Sometimes when we slow down, that is when we get sick. Maybe your body is telling you it needs some rest.

Beautiful daughters!! I’m quite intrigued by carb cycling – I sure could use a change in my eating habits and a group to be accountable to sounds interesting. Congrats on your success!

Thank you ! And I was surprised how effective the group accountability was.

I watched a preview of Amanda’s carb cycling class — I didn’t sign up at that time, but I might have to look back into it! I’ve been in a funk lately too. Let’s blame it on the super dark mornings and the looming winter!

You look awesome — so glad it worked well for you. I’m always trying things, but stress, unfortunately, seems to work really well for me. Until I go on vacation, of course, and there’s going to be a LOT of time away this month. Again!

It’s hard to come back after vacation. It feels like it shouldn’t be, but it is. And I leave again for a very stressful weekend (moving my parents) right after we get back. Like, 2 days! I think I need to pack for that now. I don’t know how I’ll do it all, but I know I will.

Fall really has arrived here. I swear there was a tree at the park today that wasn’t changing colors yesterday, but sure was today!

I feel you on the lack of motivation. I’ve had some of that myself–but we have been having problems with my oldest son and combined with my youngest’s broken leg and surgery, it’s been a tough couple of months. I’m feeling better tho–found my running mojo again! And the sister trip helped too.

You look great! I’m not sure about carb cycling, but anything that gets you eating healthier is a win in my book!
