Virtual coffee date : May

Hello May ! As always, I am happy to catch up with DeborahCoco and Lynda and the rest of you for this month’s virtual coffee date. So grab a chair and let’s catch up !

My choice of coffee this week is cappuccino, as we just spent the last 5 days in Rome on vacation. It was AMAZING. I had never been. We had perfect weather, saw all the sights and ate all the gelato.

Be sure to check back on Monday for my weekly wrap post to read and see all about it. All I can say is that if you have never been, it is so worth it.

Over coffee we would talk about running. I completed my first marathon on April 3rd. It was the most amazing experience. My training plan called for a 3 week recovery plan, with a walk or run /walk 6 days a week.  I was happy when it ended, and needed the down time and lack of structure. A six month + plan was LONG.  So while I continued to exercise and run, it was on my terms. After my week in Rome and no running, I am traveling this coming week for work. AFTER that I will look forward to starting a new training plan, sometime in June. Indeed, the next big race for me is the NYC Marathon on November 6th !

Over coffee we would probably chat about kids. It is the end of the school year here and that means LOTS of activities. Theater, gymnastic competitions, big end of year tests, summer plans… my eldest is a junior so we spend a lot of time discussing colleges and universities. She would love to study in the US but the cost is a big subject of debate !

If we were having coffee, we would probably chat about work and travel. This past month was crazy with several work trips around Europe. I would tell you that I have ANOTHER work trip this coming week. I need to go to Toronto for a couple days, then I will be back Saturday. I hope next weekend is nice because we have the Monday off and I would love to go to the countryside.

Over coffee, the final highlight of the month would be spending 3 days with my brother and SIL in Baltimore mid April. I hadn’t seen them in a long time and it was wonderful catching up.

So, as always, a crazy busy month, just how I like life ! What would you like to talk about over coffee this month ? What was the highlight of your April ?

I does sound like a crazy month! Your Rome pictures are great and make me miss my vacation time over there last year- I know it was a once in a life time experience! Do you all celebrate Mother’s day over there? If so, have a great one! Safe travels!

What a lovely trip with your family. April was pretty busy for me. I ran 3 half marathons (there were 5 weekends in the month) and two of them required travel. I look forward to being home more in May and also working in my yard and hopefully start water skiing too. I think I’ll be doing a shorter marathon training plan for Chicago. Happy Mother’s Day Karen!

You have been doing a lot of racing and have been on the go so many weekends. I love traveling but also love spending time at home. Hope the weather is nice enough to allow you to start water skiing soon.

Glad you enjoyed your vacation – Rome is wonderful!

The cost of colleges just blows my mind – I keep saying tuitions cannot keep going up, but yet they do.

    Enjoy the downtime from training!

Lord, I don’t know how you do all that travel! Travel is tiring. Even fun travel! I love to travel, but at heart I’m a real homebody. I just love being in my kitchen and baking. Occasionally cooking. 🙂

I think downtime after a goal race is important. Getting back to running for fun is great!

Luckily I don’t travel like that constantly, just by spurts. It will be like that until end of June, then it will calm down for a few months.

Congrats on finishing your first marathon! I am jealous that you are running NYC. I entered the lottery but didn’t get in.

    • Karen - Fit in France May 8, 2016 at 3:53 pm Reply

Thanks Kerry. Not sure what I got myself into. 2 marathons in one year is a bit much !

Congrats on your first marathon! It is so exciting to hear that you are running New York! I am thinking I will run my first marathon in January, The Walt Disney World Marathon. It will be my 11 month anniversary of sustaining my traumatic brain injury. I think it is a great way to help inspire other TBI survivors!

I lived in Italy for a semester and we went to Rome a couple times…there is so much to see! (and sooooo much gelato to eat!) I would love to go back some day! Congrats in your first marathon! I ran my first marathon April 16th and I finished 😆 I have not decided about doing another full this year or waiting until the spring…

You are right, there is so much to see in Rome its almost overwhelming. I did read your race recap for your marathon ! Congrats. I think I would have struggled with a small race. I like running races with lots of people and crowd support.

Rome is definitely on my bucket list! It sounds like you had a wonderful trip! After training 6 months for a marathon, I’m sure you’re relieved to get a little bit of a break before the madness begins again!
