Virtual coffee date : March 2016

Hello March ! As always, I am happy to catch up with DeborahCoco and Lynda and the rest of you for this month’s virtual coffee date. So grab a chair and let’s catch up !

If we were having coffee this Saturday morning, it would be a quick one because I am leaving for the airport in a couple hours ! I have 12 days of business travel, starting in Mexico and finishing in Florida. I have never been to Mexico and am looking forward to it. I had to get out all of my summer and spring clothes yesterday. Packing was a nightmare. Piles of yes/no/maybe clothes… ugh.

This means that I am missing the Paris Half Marathon which is tomorrow. I signed up a long time ago but didn’t know that I would have a conference the same weekend. I feel really badly for the racers because crappy crappy weather is announced. Most of you know that I HATE running in the rain. Yeah, I’ll take Mexico over Paris this weekend !As I write this, it is snowing here in Paris which is exactly what is announced in the yellow border.

Over coffee I would want to know if you took any vacation during these winter months. My kids were on school vacation the past 2 weeks but we just went away for the weekend, to the French countryside. While it was only a couple days, I got to spend some quality time with my family. We played Just Dance on the Wii, and I got to run while my daughter biked along. Wow, one hour, technology free conversation. A luxury that I loved every minute of.

If we were having coffee I would tell you I am experimenting with the timer on my camera. For the moment, I suck. The lighting is crappy and the photo is out of focus. I think I don’t have the patience at the end of my runs to play with the settings and try some shots. We’ll call it work in progress.

I also tried this :

A friend loaned me this gadget that electro stimulates your muscles. My friend uses it due to poor circulation, I wanted to try it for muscle recovery but even on a low setting it made my toes tingle.  You can adjust the intensity, but I didn’t like it much.

And finally, over coffee I would tell you I am getting excited but nervous… my marathon is in one month !

What would you love to talk about over coffee or tea today ?

I love seeing the photos of the French countryside. The time with your daughter sounds perfect! Over coffee I would say that I am loving having more daylight as spring approaches and I’m looking forward to the warmer weather predicted next week. Happy travels!

    • Karen - Fit in France March 6, 2016 at 2:51 pm Reply

YES to more daylight ! I got up to eat breakfast this morning and it was pitch black but within 15 minutes the sun was out. Love love love it.

EEK. That electronic stimulation thing. You were brave. LOL. I’ve got my timer down, but I still take horrible selfies. Ugh. I think Botox would help me (too chicken.) The French countryside looks so serene. I know you must enjoy your time there. I hope you enjoy your trip. Where in Florida are you going?

I am thinking about a selfie stick, do you have one ?
I am going to Orlando and Ft Lauderdale.

I hope you have wonderful weather for your trip — or seeing as it’s a business trip, maybe you don’t want it to be so wonderful?

Vacation? What the heck is that? My last one was my last half, and only a handful of days, and that was at the beginning of October! And we’re not going anywhere for another couple of months. 🙁

I could really use one. I’ve kind of stopped cooking for my husband (but not for me, he just wouldn’t like the veggie meals I’ve been making).

I’ve wanted to try one of the electronic things. They’re supposed to be really helpful!

Yes, I know all about cooking for one’s self and for a significant other… my husband doesn’t always like what I make. Too healthy for him ! LOL

Nice. ..Mexico and Florida….better than snow for sure! !! Safe travels….

Look at the countryside!!! How beautiful! Yeah no technology! !!

I used a stimulateor for my knee after ACL surgery….I really enjoyed it actually.

    • Karen - Fit in France March 6, 2016 at 2:47 pm Reply

No technology is so great. I don’t know why I don’t take a break from it more often. I think my brain would love me more.

It’s such a pain to have to pack when you aren’t quite sure what clothing you will need. Nevertheless, I hope you have a wonderful trip!

    • Karen - Fit in France March 6, 2016 at 2:46 pm Reply

Yes, I brought a lot of differnt things… but of course its always too much, and not what I need. LOL

I hope your trip goes well – the warmth of Mexico sounds very nice right about now – it snowed here again too! Safe travels!

Karen, have a wonderful trip/conference. We are heading to Cabo this summer and I love visiting there. I now have a new Iphone 6s and am going to try to learn how to do timer pictures on it while running. Thank you for taking time today for coffee.

We will be there the same weekend, but not in the same spot. Too bad, it would have been fun meeting. Good luck with your race !

Even though it’s a work trip, have fun in Mexico and Florida! I love to run in new places; it’s a great way to see the sites! Good luck with your marathon!

    • Karen - Fit in France March 6, 2016 at 2:40 pm Reply

I will definitely find time to run, but not sure if it will be outside. It will depend on the weather and heat.

have a lovely time on your trip..even though its a business trip, it’s hopefully in nicer part of Mexico and Florida 🙂 if we were having coffee, i’t tell you that im contemplating to do a full marathon this year but mentally/physically i dont think i can.

    • Karen - Fit in France March 7, 2016 at 9:12 pm Reply

I would definitely suggest waiting until you are mentally ready. It needs comittment and does affect your life a bit, so if you want the first experience to be positive, I would suggest you have some “mental availibility”. At least that is my experience !

I hope you have a wonderful time in Mexico! Yes, that sounds a lot better than running a half marathon in the cold! We had snow last Friday, but now we’re going back to warm weather. I haven’t had any vacations and I’m in need for it!

Spring is just around the corner ! Hope you can take some vacation soon. I am here for work, but the sun & heat makes it a mini vacation.
