Virtual coffee date : June

Hello June ! As always, I am happy to catch up with DeborahCoco and Lynda and the rest of you for this month’s virtual coffee date. So grab a chair and let’s catch up !

If we were having coffee this morning, I am sure we would talk about my girl’s weekend with my daughters. My husband is away (for once he is the one traveling and not me !) so I am looking forward to some quality time with them.

Over coffee I would tell you that I am starting to feel old older. Almost all of my nieces (and one nephew) are in college or working at their first job, several nieces / cousins are getting married this summer, and these big life events remind me of time passing.

I can still remember my wedding, 20 years ago this coming August !

Over coffee I am sure we would talk about running. It was Global Running Day this week. Kind of surprising that no one in France  knew. Can someone just declare that it is Global Running Day ? And who decides that it goes from National to Global ? Anyway, my French friends were not aware.

Over coffee I would tell you that I am not running at the moment and haven’t in over a week. That hasn’t happened to me in a long time. Because I am in between training cycles I had been doing what I wanted in terms of fitness, trying to get in lots of variety. One day I did speed work, the next day hill repeats and the following day yoga with too many downward dogs !

Well, I pulled something. Not sure if it is a muscle or my Achilles tendon, so I have seen a doctor and have a couple exams coming up. It is nothing serious but I was so ready to start marathon training… AND I have 2 races in June. Boo.

Over coffee I would tell you how addicted I am to Game of Thrones. For those of you who watch, Tyrion posts great things on Facebook and I came across this :

If Jon Snow was waiting for me anywhere, I would be the world’s fastest sprinter !

And finally, over coffee we would talk about the weather. We have had major rains and flooding. The Seine hasn’t been this high since 1910. They have closed the Louvre, Orsay Museum and the Grand Palais until beginning of next wee because they need to move many of the things in storage on the lower levels to upper floors. There are huge traffic problems because so many roads are closed / flooded. This is along the river, where I ran the marathon in April !

Looking out my car windows this week :

Over coffee I would tell you that I am already counting the days until summer vacation. I have had so much travel in May, and June is not going to be any calmer. Trains, planes and automobiles pretty much sum up my professional life.

Can someone please send some sun to this side of the Atlantic ? Even if it has stopped raining it is overcast and I have barely seen the sun in almost 2 weeks.

Over coffee what would you like to chat about ?

Do you like Game of Thrones ?

Would you run faster if Jon Snow was waiting for you ?

My husband says as long as we are young in our minds, that’s what counts. I agree ! Thanks for the linkup Deborah.

Your wedding photo is fantastic! I’m behind on Game of Thrones. We haven’t watched the current season, but I have seen spoilers. I don’t think I have a crush on any of the guys on the show – which is odd for me! I usually have at least one crush. Maybe there are too many characters. 😉

I really came over to see if you’d mentioned the weather. We started to hear about the Paris floods today. I know you mentioned the rain keeping you in last week, sounds like it didn’t slow down. I can’t believe how high the water is! Have a good weekend!

It has been awful, really. so much flooding in Paris. Lost of small roads closed, which pushed everyone to the main road, but even those are partially flooded and closed off. Traffic is re-routed… its been crazy.

    What a beautiful wedding photo!
I’m a bit embarrassed to say I’ve never seen the show and have no idea who Jon Snow is. I think I’m the only person I know who doesn’t watch it.

    • Karen - Fit in France June 4, 2016 at 7:04 am Reply

No reason to be embarrassed. It took me forever to catch on with GOT and the Walking Dead, which probably takes a front seat to GOT !

Regardless of all the rain, it is still so beautiful there. How wonderful to have a girls weekend with the daughters. I have never seen one episode of Game of Thrones, however I understand it is a very popular series. Enjoy your weekend Karen and thank you for coffee.

Be careful what you wish for, TX has heat AND horrible flooding.

Definitely boo to a pulled muscle.

I have such fond memories of Musee d’Orsay (would you believe I chose not to go to the Louvre?).

I’ve no idea how you do all that travel, May almost killed me!

I prefer Orsay over the Louvre too !
I actually like the travel, but its nice to have a week off once in a while.

I’ve seen those pictures of the flooding on the news! Crazy weather. We’ve had pretty nice weather this week but next week the blast furnace goes on. I guess we’re really going to heat up!

I sure hope your calf calms down!

Girls time is fun, isn’t it? My hubby travels a lot so we have lots of “girls nights” and I cherish them. Yikes on all that rain. I hope all of the artwork was saved. Lack of sunshine definitely wears on me, although it’s been pretty nice here lately. Hope your achilles is ok!

Enjoy your weather ! The artwork was moved to the museum, from the basement to the regular galleries. So they are now closed to the public.

I saw footage of the Seine on the news – unbelievable! Would you believe I’ve never seen Game of Thrones – I sometimes feel like I’m the only one 🙂 I really hope your Achilles is ok.

I feel you on the rain. The entire month of May I barely saw sun. It has been quite dreary here and it is raining here today…and maybe tomorrow…ugh. Sadly we are now in the swampy kind of rain, at least in May it was a cooler rain.
I hope you feel better soon.
You were a beautiful bride 🙂 I love that dress!

Wow I knew you guys had bad weather, but didn’t realise it was that bad! I hope it all clears up for you soon! I love Game of Thrones, and would have run hard for Ned Stark for sure! Not that I am adverse to a bit of Jon Snow though!! I really need to finish watching Season 5 and move on to 6, as I am waaaay behind right now. I watchedBlack Hawk Down last night and realised that Jaime Lannister is in that.

Haven’t seen Hawk Down but its always funny to seen GOT characters in something else. Kind of the like the Harry Potter actors… always funny to see them in another context.

Thanks, it was fun looking back on the wedding picture / event.

I’ve said before I loved this picture of you and your girls and look at you 20 years ago no way, you still look young! I also wondered how National Running Day turned into Global and who gets to make that decision? Maybe next year it will be earthly day or even galaxy ?? 🙂
You will be in full training mode in a few months, aren’t you enjoying this time of variety? I have not gotten on the Game of Thrones bus yet, but if they look like this I may need to soon 🙂

Loving this time of variety. I don’t think my leg is a big thing, just kind of pesky. I want to be sure before I start training.
If you can put up with the violence, GOT is great.

Your wedding photo is stunning. We celebrated our 41st anniversary this week and I know I am old, but I just don’t feel that way! The Seine water levels are really scary, I hope they recede soon and the city can get back to normal. It was shocking to hear about moving things out of the museums on the news.
