Virtual coffee date : July

Hello summer ! As always, I am happy to catch up with DeborahCoco and Lynda and the rest of you for this month’s virtual coffee date. So grab a chair and let’s catch up !

If we were having coffee this morning…I would want to know your plans for the 4th of July weekend. As the 4th is an American holiday (which of course is not celebrated in France) I miss out on the US festivities. Fourth of July means summer !

I was in Maine last year at this time and ran a road race this weekend at LLBean. I will be thinking of the bloggers doing the race again this year.

Our Independance holiday is July 14th, Bastille day.

Over coffee I am sure we would chat about running (what else !?) I have started training for my next marathon, NYC on November 6th. For my first and only marathon I used Jeff Galloway. It is a 6 month training plan, which I am cutting to 4 months this time around. Check out my (hopefully this link will work)  review.

I am excited to be running again because I had some pesky leg pain in May, which has seemed to have gone away. I am getting excited about NY !

And speaking of NY, over coffee I am sure we would talk about travel. I have traveled for work almost every week for the past 3 months. On a recent trip, my mom and aunt met me in NY and I was able to tag on a day and run a race in Central Park.

I also did some touristy things, and met up with Judy from Chocolaterunsjudy and Darlene from myfirst5K. It was fun !

If we were having coffee this morning, I would tell you I am getting ready to leave for my long run. And it is overcast. Again. Seriously, I have seen the sun this month maybe 2 days in France. Mother Nature has put a curse over the French skies and they have been gray, gray, gray.

Over coffee this morning we would probably chat about the #Euro2016 soccer tournament being held in France at the moment. Soccer is in the air and it has been a lot of fun watching the games and the general atmosphere has helped everyone feel that life is a bit normal again. With all the terrorist activity around the world at the moment, the bad news can weigh on you.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I now have a senior and a junior. How in the heck did that happen ?

Over coffee what would you want to tell me ?

Any vacation plans ?

Do you like soccer ?

Oh, Paris. I visited a couple of years ago and was training for my first marathon. It was amazing to explore the city through running!
I don’t mind soccer but it’s not something I go out of my way to watch…probably because I’m in the US and it’s not as much of a thing as in the rest of the world.

These big tournaments are the only time I watch soccer, but its been great. France won tonight 5 to 2, it was a gray game.

I absolutely love to hear about your running and all of your amazing travels!!! Your daughters are absolutely gorgeous too. I hope you have a fabulous 4th! I usually run a 10k on the 4th, but we’re skipping it this year. I am looking forward to a good workout and some good BBQ though!

BBQ works for me ! It is definitely one of those things that represent summer and holidays ! Enjoy your weekend.

Seriously, I still don’t know how you do all that travel! I’m glad to hear you’re getting excited — cloudy is good for long runs (but not for mood).

I do run a race on the 4th. It starts late & it’s gonna be warm this year, but I’m going with my neighbor, running with a friend, & it has wonderful crowd support. It’s the only race Darlene doesn’t do, LOL, & if I had a boat on the lake I might skip it too. 🙂

I remember being in France over the 4th many years ago – I think it was the only time I didn’t see fireworks on the holiday. It is amazing how much traveling you do for work – it’s nice that you got to fit in some race and fun time while being on the road. Great pics of you with your daughters!

It is always a bit weird being away from your country for major holidays. But it is fun to experience holidays in other countries also ! Its part of the charm.
I actually love the travel, now that my kids are older and more independent, I can travel easily with not worrying much about what is going on at home.

It’s been a fantastic summer so far but oh no! it’s super cloudy this morning and cool–and it looks to be like this all weekend. Sigh.

I’m registered to run a race tomorrow, a 10k. I’m hoping the feet hold up!

Saw that you placed in the race, congrats ! Hope the foot wasn’t too painful. We had sixties all weekend, perfect running weather.

  6. you have been traveling a ton! Glad to hear that your leg is feeling better and you have resumed marathon training. I was supposed to do a 5k on the 4th but I am thinking of going biking instead

Biking or a 5K, either work ! Enjoy your long weekend.

My husband and son have been watching the soccer. The crowd noise gives me a headache so I usually keep an eye on the game from the other room. I am realizing that I am so stressed about the world news. Not sure if turning it off is a good solution but I may have to.

    • Karen - Fit in France July 3, 2016 at 9:55 pm Reply

The world news is quite depressing…..which is why it is nice to have a country and a continent rally behind a sport tournament. It is quite refreshing.

Karen, when I finished my 9 miler this morning at 8:45 it was 91. Sun, sun, sun. It would be nice to swap weather occasionally, right? I’m only doing 14 weeks of marathon training. Hope that works. I’m looking forward to following your journey again!

    • Karen - Fit in France July 3, 2016 at 9:54 pm Reply

OMG 91. Respect woman ! I can not run in that kind of heat. I ran yesterday and it was about 60 degrees. Perfect. Looking forward to following your training too.

Four months of training sounds better than 6! I think that will serve you well.
I have never watched a soccer game…I have no clue lol
It is amazing how fast kids grow up.

Even if 4 months sounds a bit more manageable, it will be different because of the summer. I think I am preferring it though to winter training. Time will tell.

    Excited to follow your training.

July 4th is one of my favorite holidays. Love fireworks.

I’m taking a weekend off from running. Back at next weekend with a 5k.

The 4th is always a fun weekend and I have a 5K planned. Great pics of you and your girls! I am not a soccer fan but I know it is so popular right now 🙂 Enjoy!
