Virtual coffee date : December

Welcome December and so happy to catch up with DeborahCoco and Lynda and the rest of you for this month’s virtual coffee date. So grab a chair and let’s catch up !

If we were having coffee I would want to know if you are ready for the end of year holidays ? I haven’t anticipated anything yet. No decorating (though I did get out the boxes), no Christmas cards have been prepared, very few presents bought. But that is OK. I am not yet feeling too stressed about it. Between travel for work and the terrorist attacks here in Paris the whole month of November was thrown off. I hope to finish most everything this weekend.

If we were having coffee I am sure I would tell you how I binged on the Walking Dead during the month. I watched the first 5 seasons. I couldn’t get enough of it. I don’t like the gore, but once you look past that, I find the series fascinating. The relationship between the people in a world overrun by Walking Dead people (walkers, roamers, biters…), how chaos affects the human race, how you manage with loss of loved ones, how you survive with no telephone or internet, not necessarily having access to healthcare. And there is a constant struggle of human nature, on the borderline between hope, abandon, dementia…. the good, the bad and the ugly of human race, its all there.

One underlying theme that I love about it is trust. Who do you trust ? How can you build confidence with people you don’t know, when you are trying to survive ?

Over coffee I am sure we would talk about running ! I have completed 2 months of marathon training. The weather in November was wonderful, this past weekend people were still running in shorts. I am very satisfied with my Jeff Galloway training plan where mileage increases very slowly. I run 3 to 4 times a week which is perfectly manageable with my job and physically not too taxing. Because the mileage builds so slowly, I have had absolutely no pain.

Total November mileage is 144 km. My only running disappointment was the cancellation of the Four Castles race a week after the Paris attacks. Understandable but disappointed nonetheless.

Over coffee we might talk about travel. Did you go somewhere for Thanksgiving ? Any end of year plans ? I travelled a bit in November for work and came across the most wonderful Christmas tree in the St Pancras train station in London. It is made up of Disney stuffed animals. The photo does not do it justice.

How cute is that ?

My hotel was right next to the Tower of London. One of the perks for living in Europe and traveling for my job.

Over coffee I would like to know what your plans are for the end of the year ? I am welcoming a few days off between Christmas and the New Year. We are not going anywhere because our family is in Paris, so running and house projects will occupy my time.

Over coffee, what would you like to chat about ?

Oh, that tree looks fantastic! I have done NOTHING for Christmas and probably won’t until next weekend – except baking cookies all day tomorrow. I’m not sure about vacation. I was thinking of taking the last week off but might try to swing a ski vacation in Jan instead.

Ski vacation in January definitely sounds appealing to me !

We can’t travel because of Chester. 🙁 I do feel blessed that I got that last half in!

How in the world did you get 5 seasons in in one month? It took us all summer to get through Lost! Which I think was 6 seasons.

      Sorry about your dog 🙁
We would watch 2 or 3 episodes a couple nights a week and on the weekends. Loved it. Loved Lost too !

The hubs and I were on a Walking Dead binge a while back…we didn’t make it very far before he started getting bored with it. I am starting my marathon training in a couple weeks! I am super excited – but the mileage does build super slow – almost like I am not going to have enough miles to be prepared. Trust the process I guess 🙂

There is a short lull in the WD at the beginning of season 4 for about 3 or 4 episodes, but I LOVED it after that.
I am building very slowly with my training, and my body is seriously very happy about it. But this is my first marathon and its all about the experience, so I am being very careful to avoid injury !

Right there with you on the slow Christmas prep. I have no excuses except that I’m just not motivated. I do have the tree up tho…

I hope to do my tree Sunday. But running will come first, then shopping, then if I am not too worn out, the tree.

I’ve done very little shopping. The house is decorated though. I’ve got some family drama going on that is putting a little damper on the holidays. I need to travel to the coast this month, which ordinarily is enjoyable but just feels like added stress right now. If I could go for a nice long run, it sure would help things!

Traveling in December does make things a bit more hectic. I try not to put too much pressure on myself about having everything perfectly decorated or having the best menu. I just do what I can. I want to avoid the overwhelming feeling that can come with the holidays.
Hoping your foot is better soon….

That tree is very cool looking! I am too scared to watch shows like the walking dead. Thanks for linking up with us for coffee

You definitely need to look past the gore….

That’s cool you are enjoying the Galloway plan. My coach has been building my volume slowly with run/walk intervals. It isn’t specifically a Galloway plan and I won’t race with run/walk but I do think there is something to be set for that gradual volume build. Enjoy your December!!

I will probably do the marathon in a run/walk cycle of 4 to 1. I seriously do not think I could run for over 4 hours strait.

I have never watched The Walking Dead, but I can tell it’s a really good show! Maybe one day I’ll take the plunge. Great that your marathon training is going well and manageable – injury-free is always where it’s at!

Just try a 3 or 4 episodes and you’ll probably be hooked.
