Virtual coffee date : August

Hello August 1st ! I am linking up again with DeborahCoco and Lynda for this month’s virtual coffee date. So grab a chair and let’s catch up over coffee !

If we were having coffee, I am sure we would chat about vacation. I am lucky to get 6 weeks vacation in France and I take three in the summer. We are leaving on Monday to go to the Atlantic coast of France, near Arcachon. We have been several times and love that part of France.

I am looking forward to relaxing, running, reading and recharging my batteries.

Over coffee, I am sure we would chat about how the month of July just flew by. Can you believe that we are already anticipating “back to school” ? I think I will be buying school supplies this weekend to avoid the rush at the end of August. This time of year is called “La Rentree” and it is all we will hear about for the next 6 weeks !

If we were having coffee, I would talk about family. My brother, his wife and family are here. They live on the West Coast of the US, so we don’t get to see them much. We have fully been enjoying having them around. I also spent some time with family the fourth of July weekend while in Maine.

Over coffee weather would be a topic. The only day it has rained in the past 8 weeks is last Sunday, the day we went to see the Tour de France. Ggrrrr.

Over coffee, we would also talk about kids, my girls got back from the US yesterday. They had been gone over a month so I am excited to have them back. They had a wonderful time in Maine. My eldest had her first job (and first paycheck !)… first time going to the bank to cash it :

…and the youngest spent a lot of time golfing with my parents.

Over coffee I am sure we would chat about some of the things in the news. Firstly all the animal killings and backlash hunters are getting on social media…. I am outraged by all the photos of people who are posing with dead panthers, giraffes and lions. I do not hunt and have never even held a gun, so I have a really hard time understanding the whole hunting thing. And posing with dead animals ? Sorry but I don’t get it.

I am also interested in the plane debris that has been found on an island … the mystery of the disappeared Malaysian flight has fascinated me. How, in this day and age, with all the technology we have, can a plane just go missing ?

If we were having coffee I am sure we would chat about running. I have been feeling really well, no pain, and have had some great runs in July. I am loving long runs  !

Over coffee, I would want to hear about you ! What’s new ? Any planned vacation ? Upcoming races ?

What’s your weekend look like ?

I love all of your pictures! I can’t believe how fast July has flown by too!! Summer will be over before we know it and it makes me sad. That’s so neat you got to go to the Tour de France, but so sad it rained! Your brothers family is beautiful btw!

Glad to hear you’ve been having some good runs. Very cool your daughters had time in the US and you’ve got family visiting you. I am so jealous of the European approach to vacation. I have colleagues in Europe and it is so matter of fact to take extended holiday. Enjoy the trip!

Long vacations is definitely a big perk. And that fact that no one expects you to check email… when you are off, you are off. Have a great weekend !

I don’t understand hunting either. And the plane is a good reminder that we can’t control everything …. Is that too depressing? Enjoy your vacation!

I think they probably know lots about the plane that they are not telling the public…. but the truth will come out. One day.

I have been obsessed with the hunter story too, but trying not to fall into the trap of reading too many articles either as it just makes me so angry. What I also don’t understand is how this guy is a dentist and has that much money to spend buying special access to hunt rare animals. And why do endangered species groups sell the right to kill one of their animals? I know they make a lot of $, but I just don’t get it.

    Ahh. I have to stop.

Enjoy your vacation. The beach looks lovely. recently posted…August Ultimate Coffee DateMy Profile

I haven’t even started thinking much about back to school yet. Since I homeschool our kids, I don’t start them till September. So I have a little bit of time yet.
Enjoy your vacation. it sounds awesome!

One of my teens worked for me this summer earning his first paycheck. I was so proud to find out he is a wonderful dedicated employee! I hate to give him up when he starts school week after next. I’m very disturbed by the fact a plane can disappear in this day and age too! Something is just not right about that. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

You must be very proud of your son… I love those moments, discovering how great people they are growing up to be.

I have looked forward to this all year. Even if you had your in April, half the fun is the planning…where is your next one ?

We haven’t had a whole lot of rain this summer either. A little bit here & there but overall rather dry.

I love animals & am not anti-hunting – if they eat what they hunt. For sport, no, I do not understand it. Especially endangered species like lions & tigers. Mind you I could never personally hunt. It is part of why I eat vegetarian a lot – although I still eat meat. When I do, I am willing (and able, luckily) to pay more to buy meat that is humanely raised.

Hunting is a very personal and controversial subject. …
