Traveling, enjoying, bingeing, running

This past week can be summarized by these four words.

Traveling :  I was in Germany 3 days for work.  I was not in a big town but had to eat. I ventured into a restaurant where nothing was in English. It was a humbling experience because mostly I travel to big cities where English is not a problem. I just assume everything is in English and everyone speaks English. While the Germans do generally speak great English, it was not as fluent in this small town as it usually is.

On the menu I understood burger and sweet potato fries.  What I got wasn’t 100% what I was expecting but when I am hungry I will eat almost anything.

Enjoying : It was in the low 70s here in France this weekend and in the 60s all of last week. We went to the countryside a bit, and I got to run outside and take advantage of the sumptuous, fantastic, wonderful warm weather. Look how green everything is.

Bingeing : We have been watching the Walking Dead. I never thought I would like anything with zombies but the whole family can’t get enough of it ! In less than 10 days we are halfway through Season 3. While I close my eyes for all the gore, I like the people, how the relationships evolve, the survival instincts. Definitely a far cry from CSI !

Running : I ran four times this week, as called for in my training plan (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & my long run Saturday morning). It was a total of 34 km (22 miles) and 4 hours 10 minutes of run time. I haven’t managed to work in other kinds of fitness. I want to go to the pool but wasn’t around when it was open, and want to do some weight training but preferred being outside to the gym.

There were so many dogs out while I was on my long run. I ran in parts of the forrest / park I don’t usually venture to, so it was nice having something new to entertain me.

You had dogs, I had cats. The trail area where I went mountain biking must be a place where people dump unwanted cats and then someone puts out food and shelter for them. There were probably 10 that I saw wandering near the parking lot area. Sounds like an adventure in Germany…I experienced the same traveling in Italy – the smaller towns really didn’t have much English. I really needed my phrasebook. Have a great week!

No stray cats in the woods here. People are really good about keeping them spayed and neutered. Italy would have been easier for me !

Great week of training! I struggle to fit in other types of fitness too. I do good to get my runs done. The park looks beautiful! It looked like a nice day for a long run and for dog walking. I may be the only one who isn’t a fan of the Walking Dead. I guess if I started it back from the beginning I might get into it, but I’m not into the blood and gore either.

You should try at least 2 or 3 episodes, from the beginning. I was immediately hooked !

Sounds like you did great for a travel week!

We’ve been lucky when we’ve traveled to either have someone with us who speaks the language or know just enough or have english menus.

People in Europe seem to think we’re European, a little old lady in Paris starting talking french to me, in Prague a group of Tourists also tried french before being very relieved to find out we were American.

    Must be my husband’s moustache . . . .

People think you’re American if you wear a baseball hat and sneakers. That is what is considered to be a telltale sign ! So if you are not dressed like that, I am not surprised people would ask you for directions 🙂 You probably look very nice and friendly !

As long as I could understand burger and fries, I’d be OK. A cheeseburger is my favorite meal. I have seen a few episodes of Walking Dead with my kids. I admit, there was more story than I expected. Good job in getting your running miles in, even with travel. Your countryside looks very pretty. I see one of the dogs in your picture is not on a leash. Is that allowed? I appreciate you linking up with us!

I don’t have a dog so don’t know all the dog etiquette, but I think in the middle of the woods / park they generally let their dogs loose. But not on the street or in a populate place. Always on a leash.

I ran 22 miles too and no other exercise.

You are so lucky to have a job where you travel …my dream job.

As soon as my travel stops I hope to get in at least one, if not 2 sessions of other training. I think it is really complimentary to my running and I miss it.

I would not like not speaking the same language. I get irritated when I’m at the store listening to the ones around here speaking Spanish, can’t imagine haveing to deal with that ordering food and all I’m glad it worked out and you knew burger and fries. I’d be scared I didn’t have a clue what I was eating. I loved the Walking Dead and need to get back to watching it. See I like that kind of stuff. 🙂 Great training week and lots of miles, we are both plugging along. It’s fixing to get serious, though. I hope we both handle it well. Thanks so much for linking up with us! Have a wonderful week.
