Thinking out loud : May

I have not done a Thursday is for thinking out loud post with Amanda for a while, so I figured today would be a good time. Lots of randomness going through my mind, so get ready for my brain dump !

Brides. We have three weddings coming up, the first one this weekend. My nieces, or the children of my husband’s cousins, are getting married, so that means lots of family, fun and food. French weddings are so great. The wedding is Saturday at 4: 30 p.m., followed by a cocktail, dinner and dancing. I am really looking forward to it.

One more month of school. Kids in France go until the end of June or beginning of July. So we are in the home stretch. End of year exams, but also gymnastic shows, art exhibits, theater… it is a busy time.

Strikes. The French government is trying to change the labor laws and the country is up in arms. I personally think the law is going in the right direction, but so many people are reluctant to change. Many of our gas stations (50%) are empty because strikers are blocking gas storage units, I wanted to drive to work this morning and there was a “snail demonstration” on the main road (meaning the trucks are driving very very slowly creating huge traffic problems), the air traffic controllers are on strike…. yeah, it is kind of crazy. But if we don’t change some things in our labor laws, the future of this country is not  very bright.

photo from the internet, but you get the idea !

Work. I love my job. I meet new and interesting people every week, I have great colleagues, and I get to travel (my hotel view this week was of the London Bridge). But I am still looking forward to my summer vacation…. two months away !

Marathon training. I am running the NYC marathon in November and I am planning on starting my training plan next week.  I have been enjoying my unstructured break since my last race, Paris marathon.

Verizon is on strike, and not long ago I was stuck in a traffic jam because of the strikers, so I feel your pain. But I think strikes are more prevalent in Europe?

How I wish we had that European summer vacation though . . . we actually have no plans for the summer, but then in the fall we get busy again.

Sometimes no planning is good. It just so happens that we have a lot of travel this year but not every year is like that.

Do you miss the American holidays? only wondering because of the holiday weekend.

I heard about the strike on NPR, I hope it gets resolved in a way that will benefit workers.

What a great view you had!

Yes, training will start soon but I have a pulled muscle so I need to rest a bit before starting. 🙁

I thought it has gotten better but the past few months have been awful.

Ugh. Sorry about the strikes and the inconveniences they cause. I’ve been to British weddings but not French ones. I’ll bet they are amazing. Enjoy!
