Thinking out loud : January !

I am linking up with Amanda for  Thursday is for thinking out loud … with middle of winter randomness.

It has been COLD here in Paris this week. Now, its true that the temps have been exceptionally mild for the past 3 months and I have become spoiled, but (-4 degrees celcius)  low twenties is cold for France. I have needed an extra dose of motivation to get out the door on my runs this week.

Luckily I could organize my time so I ran at lunch or in the evening, and not at 7 a.m. like I have been. When I see this, I am really happy that I choose to run last night and not this morning.

This week was my birthday (mid forties !) so I have been thinking about my age, and aging in general. I can honestly say I feel 10 years younger and it is 100% lifestyle changes that are the root cause. Eating well, getting enough sleep, drinking water, exercising 4 days a week, stimulating  my brain with reading / soduko, having a job I love, ridding myself of any negative energy that was surrounding me….  It is not rocket science but I definitely feel better now than I did 10 years ago.

With marathon training I have been making an effort to stretch and foam roll.

I went back to yoga this week (hadn’t been since November) and as usual, I love it. I don’t know why I don’t go more often, this week the teacher did several of my favorite poses. I have also been thinking about getting a sports massage. We have someone in our town with a great reputation, who worked with the French Olympic gymnasts for many years, but in all honesty I am kind of scared. Scared that it will hurt like hell and take me a week to recover !

I am looking forward to a weekend away with my husband at the end of the month. I have a half marathon in Nice, and it will hopefully be a little sunnier & warmer than here in Paris (pictures from the website).

I have been planning a big trip for my job, in March. I will be going to Brazil and Mexico (both for the first time) and finish with Florida. I consider myself lucky that I have the opportunity to travel with my job. But I also appreciate that I have something to look forward to. These dark winter months are looonnnnggggg.

What is on your mind ? Ever had a sports massage ?

    Happy Birthday!!

it’s cold here too…and windy! Tough to motivate myself to get outside but I have.

Your vacation looks like a dream. Can’t wait to hear about it.

Where in Florida? I’ll be in Sarasota in Feb. Too bad you can’t take a detour to NY.

I will be in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale… I was in Sarasota last year in March and it was darn cold. Hope you have better weather than I did.

It’s pretty amazing how big of an impact a good diet and exercise routine can have on our well-being. I definitely notice a huge difference when I’m treating my body right, especially with getting enough sleep and water!

    Also… happy birthday!!! 😀

I love massages and try to get them regularly, but I haven’t had a sports massage and it’s actually been a few months since I had one.

Happy birthday! Your work trip sounds amazing. I’ve never been to Brazil but have been to Mexico a few times on cruises. I hope you have nice weather.

We have no plans for any trips until my ME half . . . it will be almost half a year since I went anywhere by that point, except to my parents.

I hope I have decent weather too. I was in Florida last March and it was so cold ! Maine (my home state!) is a great place for a vacation ! or race-cation !

Just found your blog through Leana. I also just celebrated a mid-40’s birthday. It sounds like you enjoyed yours very much.
As for the sports massage – I am a FAN. I actually can’t deal with a ‘regular’ massage anymore because it doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything. And to be able to go to someone with that depth of experience – I say “Go for it!”

Thanks Kristina for reading & commenting ! What you say definitely resonates, I just need to bite the bullet and make an appointment!
