The way vacation should be (ww #22)

I have been on vacation for the past 10 days, and it is back to work for me tomorrow. Here is a peak into what I accomplished (because I can not sit still and just ”relax”).

1. Went to the movies three times with my kids / family. Didn’t see anything worth special mention.

2. Cleaned out 4 out of 5 closets and almost all drawers, cupboards, buffets and cabinets in my house. Cleaned off the 2 balconies & took down all the Christmas decorations. I am not much of a hoarder, my mom (who is here for 12 days) even less so. It is great motivation to do it with someone and I got rid of things that I have not used since we moved in (uh hum….3 years ago).

3. Continued marathon training. My long runs are getting longer (17 miles a week ago last Saturday, 20 miles next Saturday). On the weekend between my long runs, speed work of mile repeats has started. We had some overcast days but the temps are still quite mild.

4. Ran the dishwasher probably 15 times in 10 days. We had people over for Christmas and New Year’s, and we have been eating 3 meals a day at home, so that makes for a lot of cooking and cleaning.

5. Finished season 3 of Chicago Fire Department. I LOVE the characters and the series. Almost as much as the Walking Dead.

6. Got to the pool once, and to the gym once for weights.

7. Spent quality time with my mother and daughters (husband had to work). Puzzles, cards, walking & talking. It was great to connect. This picture is from a 18 months ago, but it is still my favorite of the 4 of us.

The cat wanted to help with our puzzle :

8. Loaded up on veggies, butternut squash and sweet potato. Definitely my go to carbs at the moment. I have been steaming some butternut squash, then I mash it and scramble and egg with it. It is a great breakfast (here with half a muffin).

9. Ate too many sweets. Our local pastry shop has turned all of their pastries into yule logs. I have resisted because we have been making home made desserts but I admit I was tempted.

10. Completely forgot about work. I didn’t check my email. Not even once.

I am linking up with Holly and Tricia at Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap. Be sure to check them out (in the home stretch for their marathon) and be sure to check out the other bloggers. It is so much fun catching up every week.

So great you had family time over the holidays! I did too, and also indulged in lots of sweets. I love the cat in the puzzle box photo – so typical of cats. Your long runs are getting really long! Wow! Great work on the training and Happy New Year!!

Our cat has to be the center of attention, he is a major lap cat ! Hope you had a nice time with your family.

How wonderful to spend time with your Mother. I love puzzles and do them when we are at the beach. They are very relaxing. I have hoarders in my family so I’m pretty quick to throw it away or give it away. But, right now my drawers and closets need a purge. There just isn’t enough time. I guess training for a marathon for seven months (including the one that didn’t happen) takes it’s toll. I love squash but would never think of putting it in eggs. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate you linking with us Karen. Happy New Year!

Throw, give, recycle, reuse… I feel so much better to have things in their place, not cluttered. So much better for my energy.
and I mix anything with an egg !
Happy New Year to you too.

Sounds like you had a lovely productive break! Family time sounds great 🙂
The cold has arrived full force today, so odd after being so hot for so long.
That is great the long runs are going so well.
The park where you run looks so pretty.

My vacation was similar – did not read my work email, worked on a puzzle, saw lots of movie, ran and add too many sweets.

Happy New Year. Continue that great marathon training.

What a nice vacation. I’m in need of a good closet clean out or two. I should invite my mom over for help; it really does go faster with an unbiased helper! I always do puzzles in the winter and now that our weather is finally getting colder in Ohio, I think it may be the perfect time to get one out. Have a great week!

Sounds amazing. I want a redo for the holidays. Zoom–they went faster than a race and there wasn’t a whole lot of fun this year. Too much prep. Next year is going to be different!

Oh my goodness, those desserts! They look so good that I am wiping the drool off of my keyboard as I type this. =) Love the idea of butternut squashed scrambled with eggs – I’ll have to try that sometime. Congratulations on all your long runs and good luck on your upcoming 20. You’ve got this!!!

You will rock your race ! Enjoy it, can’t wait to hear about it.
I am ready for my 20 miler. Last long run I did 4:1 run:walk ration, I am going to do 3:1 this time and see if my legs are in better condition at the end !

You were busy!! My family spent 9 days on vacation in California…and my house is still just as messy as when we left for the trip (I was hoping a magical cleaning fairy would do some damage in our absence… #didnothappen). Yes, too many sweets, but I kept active with my running (streaking), and did two races while in Cali, so I don’t have too much guilt for the crap food we had to eat while on the run. 😉

I would love a magical cleaning fairy too. I must have vacuumed every day for 2 days strait.
I haven’t been to California in years…. I would love to go back one day.
