Summer is still here

The highlights of my week were family, work travel, scorching heat and running. Not necessarily in that order.

On Monday I was in Frankfurt and from Tuesday to Thursday I was in London, all for work. This should hopefully be my last big week of travel until October. But I am not complaining, I love going to London. Our offices are near the Tower of London and Tower bridge, so I took a nice evening walk after work. It is amazing how fast London is growing and changing. This is towards to Western part of the city, that they started to build up for the 2012 Olympics. The amount of construction is crazy.

Family. I took the day off on Friday to spend it with my SIL, who is heading back home with her 2 girls. We went into Paris for a few hours, had lunch in a café and walked around.


I never get tired of the views. Ever.


We also took our yearly end of summer selfie. This year I won’t have to wait a full 10 months before seeing her again, she will be back for a family wedding at the end of September.


Scorching ! We had temps in the 100s for 5 days strait in Paris. We are lucky that we don’t have the humidity of the US, but then again, we don’t have much air conditioning, so you just need to suffer through, even if it is 90 degrees in your home. I don’t want to complain though because the heat will be gone very quickly. Boo.

We decided to head up to our country cottage on Saturday and spend the day. It was a bit cooler, and we got to barbecue.


Despite all the craziness, I did get my workouts in, and my running felt good.

  • Monday : off
  • Tuesday : 8 K +  upper body work (200 push ups & 100 tricep dips)
  • Wednesday : off
  • Thursday : one hour full body workout in the hotel. I did it in my room because the gym didn’t open until 6 a.m. and I was up earlier than that.


  • Friday : 7,5 K with some speed work
  • Saturday : Off
  • Sunday : 16K (10 miles) total with warm up, 6 x 1 mile repeats & cool down. I was happy because I hit all my repeats within 5 seconds (10:15 – 10:20). 100 push ups + 100 tricep dips. My leg felt really great and I am happy to report that I had no issues with my Achilles all week.

    Looks like you had a great week with a nice mix of training and spending time with your family, despite all the travelling!

    As you will have experienced, it’s been quite hot and muggy in the UK this week, at least hot and muggy for us! One thing I did this week to combat the weather was finally get the air conditioning regassed in my car. I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner. It was so nice after my run on Saturday to get in the car and properly cool down!

    I am so envious of your travels! I have to remember that traveling in Europe is like traveling from state to state, distance-wise. But how fun to experience all the different cultures!

      I break up the push ups and dips.. I can not do them all in a row. It is doable. Like anything, I needed to build up to it.

    London looks amazing!!

    I’m sorry to hear you are having Achilles pains!! I was too, lots of stretching, icing and lots of Icy hot at night. My bedrooms smells like it!

      Hadn’t thought of icy hot… I have been using ice + rest and it seems to be better.

    I love those London photos! And yikes, 5 straight days of temps above 100!?! That sounds horrible. I’m glad you were able to escape to the country for a bit of cooling down.

    I didn’t realize it got that hot in Paris! I will never complain about the heat and humidity here because I know soon enough we will have cold weather!

    London was one of my favorite places to visit!

    I didn’t realize it got that hot in Paris. Good job in getting your workouts in, especially while traveling. Your pictures of London are lovely.     Ahhh amazing views too! In London and in Paris. I hope you realize how lucky you are!! Great picture of you and your SIL. No ac and 100 temps gahhhh, I’d get out of town too 🙂 Great job on getting in your workouts even traveling. Hotel gym didn’t open until 6?       It is definitely cooler here, as long as you run first thing in the morning. I wore long sleeves yesterday. I was a bit too hot, but then again, I have a tendency to overdress.
