Eating while on vacation is always somewhat of a challenge. However, I am not complaining as travelling is always the opportunity to try new foods.
This post also doubles as my WIAW – weekend version post from the mountains!
Breakfast was pretty much the same every day. French bread & butter, yogurt, fruit and two cups of coffee.
For lunch we often ate while on the slopes. My husband HAS to have a hot meal for lunch. This is pretty difficult to negotiate, so we ate at a restaurant or self serve restaurant every day.
We were not far from Italy, so had to have some pasta, with lamb. Also had French onion soup, with bread and cheese for dipping. Its rare to have the cheese on the bread, it is usually in the bowl. I preferred it this way!
In the evening we ate at the hotel’s restaurant. Very good, homemade style food. As we were with a group, the menu was the same for everyone. They brought the dishes out and everyone served themselves, like they were having a family dinner at home. One night we had a pasta casserole (Crozet – a special pasta from the French Alps), a second night Boeuf Bourgninon, and the third evening pork with spicy rice. There was also homemade dessert every evening. One night it was red fruit crumble.
I usually try to have just one helping of dinner so I can leave some space for dessert, especially when it is homemade. I also had a glass of wine, no bread.
Go to snack while skiing was chocolate. Not sure if you have Milka with Daim in the US, but if you are a milk chocolate fan, I definitely suggest trying this.
One of the funnier things we came across this weekend, a bachelor party. A bunch of English guys were skiing for the weekend. The future groom is dressed in pink. Yes, he skied like this. Hilarious.
It was a wonderful weekend. I am also happy to get back home, get back to a semi-schedule, and make my own food.
