Scenes from Vincennes Forest (France)

I am linking up with Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice, Erika at MCM Mama runs and Patty at My no guilt life for Tuesdays on the run where today’s topic is summer running scenes.

In Paris, there are 2 major forests, or what I would consider as wooded areas, one to the East and one to the West. There are miles and miles of roads, trails and paths with ponds, lakes, restaurants and many other activities.

I am lucky to live 5 minutes from the one on the East side, the Vincennes Forest. This is where I do 80% of my runs, so I thought I would highlight scenes from this.

In the morning, I run on the paths that follow the roads (in the lower left had corner of the above map). This is almost the same spot in spring and in the summer :

Even if I am always careful about my safety, in most areas it is very safe, there are lots of runners and bikers, dog walkers and people strolling. The large majority is free of cars.

A couple of small lakes / ponds to run around (they are actually ponds but called lakes – on the left side of the above map) : 20160724_083039 20160716_095656

While I don’t venture alone into the depth of the forests I have never felt unsafe while running here. As with anything in a city, you need to be smart but there are certain spots where there are always people running, especially on the first nice days of spring :

The Paris marathon also goes through parts of the woods (not sure who was waving at me, I just wanted a picture) :

Trails, pavement, wood chips…. great options depending on what you are looking for in terms of surfaces.

I am so blessed to have such a fabulous place to run !

What is your favorite place to run in the summer ? Any great trails near where you live ?

Oh my, you are SO lucky to have such a wonderful area to run in.

Pretty much anything remotely scenic is at least a 15 minute drive away, more likely 20 or 30 or more, and so I rarely run in other places.
