Runfessions : October

I am linking up with Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions. It is that time of the month to get everything off your chest. Because I am running the NYC marathon in a little more than a week, that race is pretty much top of mind for all things running. So here goes ….

Dear NYC marathon….I runfess…

…. I don’t want to jinx myself, but I am ready for you. I feel really really good about my last 2 long runs and I have been having no knee pain what so ever. So, while I may not be the fastest, I am confident about being able to go the distance. I’m coming for you !

…. I have already started stalking the weather. For the moment, it is looking good but it has been fluctuating between the fifties and sixties. So far, no rain announced. Can you ask Mother Nature to keep the rain away ? (12 degrees Celsius is 56°F)

… I haven’t started preparing much for the logistics of the race. I know what time I need to catch my bus, I know what time I start and I know I start on the top of the bridge, but the rest of the details ? I will manage this weekend.

…I am looking forward to seeing Darlene and Judy

(WordPress refuses to link grrrrrrr).

…. I am looking forward to not only running in NYC but playing tourist with my husband. We haven’t been to the city together since our honeymoon over 20 years ago. These photos are from our visit (and I runfess I had to go through 10 photo albums to find them). I think they were taken on the boat going to Ellis Island.

….I am looking forward to not training through the winter. I ran this week in the dark, on wet leaves. I was the only one out. It wasn’t much fun.

I also runfess…

…I have been unfaithful to my running, and have been doing 2 to 3 other workouts during the week. Lifting, leg work, full body workout… yes, I am craving variety. This is one of the things that I am looking forward to once the race is over.

…. while I was running intervals this week, I stopped to walk and this guy came by and said “keep on going, you have been pacing me”. I felt pretty flattered.

I will post again, but if you want to follow me during the race (bib 61015)  you can download the NYRR app here :

And finally, I runfess that I am looking forward to a 3 day weekend here in France !

What do you want to runfess this month ? Anything to get off your chest ?

It sounds like you are so ready! How fun that you are making a “second honeymoon” out of it. We did that with Big Sur. It was a wonderful trip!

I wish we had more time in NY to sigtsee, as 3 days will be marathon related, so that only leaves 2,5 days but it will be better than nothing. I can’t wait.

I runfess that I also feel ready for NYC but like you I don’t want to jinx it! I know it’s going to be a lot of fun though!

I’ll definitely be tracking you and cheering loudly, Karen! You’ve worked hard and I know you will have a great race. When I finished the 5k last weekend, a much younger guy behind me made a point to thank me for pacing him. Very rewarding, I think. I runfess, I dread the time change because I like running in the dark. Weird, I know.

It sounds like it will be an amazing race weekend! That’s so cool that you’re going to be able to check out the city together after 20 years, I’m sure it’s changed a lot in that amount of time 🙂

Yes, NYC has changed a ton. I go often with work, but my husband hasn’t been back in 20 years. Will be fun.

You are ready Karen! Yay for starting on the top of the bridge. That is awesome. Ferrying past the Statue of Liberty en route to the start was one of those “pinch me” running moments. Soak it up and enjoy! Geez I have no idea what my Indy bib no. even is and it’s 11/5. Guess I’d better go check! I’ll be lying in bed in my compression socks cheering for you on 11/6!

The weather on the east coast has been really up and down. It’s way too soon to start stalking it. The temps in DC this weekend for MCM are pushing 80!

I have seen several pictures of snow from the US, but NY looks to be hovering around 55 or so, possibly a shower in the morning.

You ARE ready! Absolutely. Of course we have our 5k the day before. There will not be time for a long run next week, I’m pretty sure, and that stresses me just a little but I also know somehow I’ll work it out. I always do.

Since we lived in TX all those years, there was a long drought of not going to the city (that was my 40th birthday present, btw — it had been so long & that’s what I wanted). Even now, we haven’t been together since the first year we moved here — and we only went then because it was a conference for hubby! He may never ever want to go again after next weekend, we’ll see.

Hope your husband enjoys your visit, I am sure it will be great.
BTW, I am not running the 5K on Saturday. I will be at the expo and doing a bus tour of the marathon route.

    Variety is great!
I hope you have a wonderful time in NY with the hubby 🙂 I know you will have a great race, you are very ready. I sure hope the weather stays nice for you! Weather has such a big impact, i am hoping for a nice crisp Fall day here too the following week!
It is nice how your streets are lined with lights! It is really dark here- only place with lights is at the school near me.

    • Karen - Fit in France October 29, 2016 at 8:43 am Reply

Yes, our streets are lined with lights, but maybe it is because I am in a city. I am sure if it were more rural, it wouldn’t be the case. I am very lucky.

    • Karen - Fit in France October 31, 2016 at 8:09 pm Reply

We have Nov 1st off (All Saints day), so my company gives us the Monday off too. So it should have been a 4 day weekend but I need to travel tomorrow.
