Race medals

I am linking up with Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice, Erika at MCM Mama runs and Patty at My no guilt life for Tuesdays on the run where today’s topic is Race medals, maybe you own it maybe you covet it.

To all you American runners, let me just say this…. you are so lucky to have such great race medals. There is no comparison with what we get here in France. Seriously. Nada. Maybe its less important ? Maybe people are not as interested ?

I covet this !

You only get decent medals at very big races (20 000 + people), like the Paris Marathon.  2016 is the 40th anniversary, so check back on April 3rd and I will show you the medal that will be hanging around my neck! I am hoping that for the 40th they do something very very special. This was last year’s which I find spectacular :

I also covet a Disney medal. The Disney races have finally come to France, the first half marathon is the weekend of September 25th… the weekend my niece is getting married. Their website here in France taunts me :

I own it !

Here are a few medals that have special meaning for me.

  • The medals from La Parisienne. It is a 6,7K race I do every year with my colleagues, 100% women in and around the Eiffel tower. I have been doing it since 2010 but not all medals are shown here because a couple are at work (2012 & 2014).

  • This one has special meaning because although the race experience was awful (pouring rain, wind, cold) it was my first ”long distance”, one of the iconic Parisian races, the Paris 20K.

  • And finally, this was from one of my favorite races from 2015, another iconic Paris race, Paris Versailles 16K. The front is kind of odd because it says ”2015 International year of the ground” but on the back the information is completed with ”The grounds nourish us and allow us to run. More than ever we need to protect them.”

The rest I have are very basic and not photo worthy.

Tell me, what medals do you love or covet ?

You’ve got a nice collection going Karen! I heard from some that they didn’t care for that Paris Marathon medal. I too think it’s spectacular. Not much longer now and you’ll have your own! Thanks for linking up!

The women’s race around the Eiffel tower sounds fantastic!

Although I love a medal, the truth is it’s the memories they remind me of that is most important & I don’t look at them that much.

Definitely agree with you on the memories. I picked the ones that held the most important race memories, good & bad.

You have a nice collection so far! My favorite medal has to be my Ragnar medal and my Vegas RnR bc it glows in the dark. Fun!

Isn’t it funny how different medals are in each country?

All your medals are great, I hadn’t heard that the Disney races were coming to France, it’ll be interesting to see the medals for that.

I had been dying for the Disney races to come….it happens to be the weekend of the Paris Versailles race which is very big here. We’ll see how it goes.

La Parisienne medals are cool! I like it when a race has a similar medal each year, but tweaks it a bit so it’s not identical to previous ones. And the 20K medal is beautiful!!! I also am big-time coveting Disney races/medals. ….but oh, are they pricey! And, I don’t exactly live close-by.

I live about 30 minutes from Disneyland Paris and I was so sure that the race would be expensive because I know in the US they are. However, it is very reasonable (69 Euros) which is a bit more than a regular half marathon here but I found reasonable compared to prices of races in the states.

You have some cool medals. I would like to one day run and get an international medal, that’s on my running bucket list.

    • Karen - Fit in France February 24, 2016 at 7:25 am Reply

So many great races here in Europe you have your pick.

It’s so interesting how different the medals are from country to country. I would love to run an international race at some point. I especially like your La Parisienne collection – so pretty!

    • Karen - Fit in France February 24, 2016 at 7:25 am Reply

Lets of people would like to run an international race, and I would like to do another in the US. I have lived ere for so long that I have actually only done one in the US !
