Race expos ? Yes please !

I am linking up with Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy SliceMCM Mama runs and Patty at My no guilt life for Tuesdays on the run where today’s topic is Race Expos, yay or nay ?!

Well, most of the races I do don’t have a big expo. I mean practically nothing. Zilch. Nada. Even the Paris Versailles race with over 30 000 people had a very very small expo.

In reality, there is only one really big expo I have been to, which is the Paris Marathon Expo from this year’s marathon back in April. I loved it so much. It was great because :

  1. I got to drool for a couple hours over all that great running gear
  2. I got access to all the specialty brands that are difficult to find in mainstream stores here in France (if at all!)
  3. I was inspired by upcoming races in other areas of France
  4. There were some unique experiences : an Asics Foot ID to analyze my gait, a radio show that was broadcasting live, a film you could make
  5. The energy ! All these people in one spot taking about my favorite topic, running !
  6. I got there early so it was not overrun by people. Lot’s of time to talk with the people on the stands.

For next year’s expo, I think I am going to take Friday off, so I can go and take my time when there are not too many people. I can not wait to go back. Not only as a visitor, but as a marathon participant !

Do you like expos ? In the US do the smaller races have them or are they found only at big races ?

There are two races here that have a pretty nice expo. I always love poking around 🙂 I am not running the 10K this year that has an expo but I still may go and poke around the expo lol It seems though there is a lot of the same things year after year…

Yes, that is probably true …that once you have done several, the same brands & stands probably come back

I do a lot of small halfs, where there isn’t any expo at all, so I guess that’s why I enjoy a good expo.

I agree with you on the energy of a crowd!

Sounds like expos are an American and large race thing. I have done some smaller halfs that have very little to no expo and that fine. I do love all the gear at a large expo though. Thanks for linking up!

Even if its small I take a look but have actually never bought anything, except a Cliff bar and a train ticket to take me back to the city because the race took us far out of the city.

I don’t run very many big races, so the expos are pretty much non-existent. And then there’s the Chicago marathon expo, which is like a runner’s shopping mall…

Runner’s shopping mall is the perfect description of the one big one I did here in Paris.

I love big expos! They give me an excuse to buy all kinds of running gear I don’t need 🙂
