Productive July weekend

Hello readers, how was your weekend ? In three words, mine was productive, non stop and “Ikean”.

Friday night was spent preparing my US income taxes. If you are a US citizen, no matter where you live in the world, you need to file with the IRS. You don’t necessarily need to pay, depending on how much tax you pay in your country of residence, but you need to file. As I have invested a lot of my money over the year, which makes things complicated, I need to have an accountant do them. So I bit the bullet, sat down and prepared everything for him. That alone would make up for a productive weekend.

As usuall, I got up really early. Our gym opens at 9 a.m. so I had a couple hours to fill, which was spent planning my Fall Race Schedule. Check out my post if you are looking for race ideas in France in the fall !

After my weight session at the gym…

…the highlight of the rest of the weekend was Ikea.

Parisian apartments are small, and my kids have beds that are off the ground, to allow for play space in the room :

Well, this kind of bed is a lot less practical as a teenager, so we are replacing them. Ikea was pretty empty and  we were in and out of there is less than an hour. My husband, who has zero patience for this kind of thing, was actually in a pretty good mood despite his funny expression!

Look that that thing rolled up…. that is the mattress. Ikea never ceases to amaze me…And to think I was worried about not being able to transport it ?!

After working on a post with last week’s workouts, I went running and did some intervals. I came across geese and horses. You can also see how dry it is here.

The rest of the day was spent putting together the bed for my daughter. My husband was very patient and the instructions were clear, so even if it took us 10 hours (5 hours x 2 people !) the end result was great.

The only problem is that the bed is HUGE. We let our daughter pick and seriously, the bed takes up more than half the space in the room. It is completely disproportionate. Oh well, live and learn.

I hope to have a pretty low key week. No evening plans yet, no travel… just excited for my brother and his family to arrive next Saturday.

I am linking up with Tara at Running n Reading for the weekend update.

How was your weekend ? Is it dry where you are ? Do you like Idea ?

That bed looks really nice though. Even if it is really too big for the room. Where did you get it?

Karen, I wish we had an Ikea closer to us; the closest one is several hours away, but I’d love to have one of their platform bed frames with the drawers in the bottom. I may have to look online. Your husband’s expression is priceless – I love it! Um, yes, I would love to come race in France; I need to win the lottery – ha! Thanks so much for linking up today; hope your Monday goes well!

Ikea is awesome, although I agree some of the assembly can be lengthy. It does look really dry there. We were dry in the spring but since have had quite a bit of rain.

Things are usually dry here in France in July, but not that dry. We have had no real rain in weeks….

  4. ha whenever I’ve tried to put together anything myself it never goes well! I end up with extra pieces.

Usually we have to unscrew something…. to put it back together. Exactly what happened. But I can not complain, my husband was positively patient.

Reminds me of my college apartment, where my bed took up most of my room! Seriously, what would we do without IKEA?

Sadly, we don’t have an Ikea nearby. I love the look of that bed! Clean lines.

Yes, this one took forever…. but as we took our time, it came out really great and no major problems putting it together.
