Paris Marathon Running Expo

I am linking up with Courtney at Eat Pray Run, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What, and Mar at Mar on the Run for this week’s Friday Five, which is a theme related to fitness. I took the opportunity of today’s Friday Five to highlight the Paris Running Expo.

I went to the expo with a friend who has run the race several times. She gave me all kinds of tips as we spent time browsing but of course… I also picked up my marathon bib.

Here are 5 things which stood out :

  1. The Paris Marathon is celebrating its 40th year. There was an exhibit with pictures and sneakers, dating back to 1976. The New Balance sneakers from 1976 look like they do today.

2.  Of course a TON of vendors !

After all the recommendations my readers made about Balega socks, I finally found some here in France. The stand selling them was so happy to have someone who knew the brand because it is just starting to be sold in France now. All of the major shoe brands had huge stands :

3. Asics (the key sponsor) has a “pace your race” stand where you type in the race time you are aiming for and they print off a bracelet (for free) with the times of your key milestones.  This stand was a huge success. We waited in line at least 20 minutes !

4. Of course, tons of photo opportunities (and it is rare that you see me wearing something other than running clothes) :

5. And finally, my bib :

Wow  ! It is happening…..

On a side note, they also had the medal but I don’t want to show it, afraid it will bring bad luck. I was kind of disappointed because I thought it would be a surprise but then it was all over social media today.

Would you have wanted to see the medal before your race ?

Having the medal be a surprise would be nice but I think I’ve always seen mine ahead of time as well. Have an amazing race and then tell us all about it!!!

I’m so excited for your Karen. Try to soak in race day and enjoy the moments as you pass by all those beautiful parts of Paris. Usually I have seen my race medal on social media before I earn it, but for some of the bigger races, it changes on a small amount from year to year like Boston and NYC. I am excited to see the London medal next month! 🙂

So exciting!! Those old pictures are hilarious!! Hope you enjoy the Balega socks! The pace bracelets are really cool. I was wondering about using one for my marathons, but I decided against it based on my coach’s advice, but I may try them in the future. Can’t wait to hear about the race!!

A lot of people I know really like seeing the medal ahead of time! That’s actually pretty standard here. I think it’s motivating to know what your running towards!

Congrats on finding Balegas! I like several different brands of socks, but they are my favorites.

If I don’t get to say it tomorrow, run happy & good luck! I have a race Sunday & some more miles to do afterwards, but I’ll be thinking about you.

I am so surprised about reactions about the medal. Seriously, in France, I have never seen a medal BEFORE the race. Maybe I just didn’t look or maybe I am naif ? But I wanted a surprise !
