How is your week going so far ? I am feeling much better after my Sunday sick day. Boo.
I am a creature of habit. While I KNOW how important it is to do different things, try new experiences, meet new people, when life gets busy it is so easy to fall back on my regular routine. I have done 2 things recently, not sure where they will take me, but I actually felt really good about taking that first step, which is often the most difficult.
1. Been in contact with Jeff Galloway Running Programs
In anticipation of the Paris Marathon 2016 I have been looking at different training programs, reading blogs, asking questions to runners. In my readings I have come across the Jeff Galloway method, run / walk /run. Since most of my readers live in the US, you are probably familiar with Jeff and his method. Well, Jeff Galloway is not well known in France, and I have yet to meet someone here familiar with the method. There is no program in Paris but I thought there might be people interested in one.
So I contacted the Jeff Galloway company, and asked if there had been any inquiries for a group in Paris, thinking I could maybe find like minded people to train with. I immediately got an email from the International Program Director, with a ton of information about starting an international program in Paris. Woah ! How did that happen ? Well, we spoke through Skype so he could explain to me what it entails, and he has put me in contact with other people running international programs elsewhere. At this stage, not really sure I want to start a running program ! but you never know where having reached out will lead me.
2. Running group / outing
Last Saturday I went to a new running store, as I needed new sneakers and a friend had told me about Team Outdoor, a running store very close to where I live. It is near the Vincennes Forest where I usually run but not on my usual path. I had never seen it. When I went I got talking to one of the sales people and they told me that twice a month they do outings where they do a group run, and have sponsors who come so you can try products, then they have drinks / a get together. They told me it was open to everyone, and that this coming Thursday was their yearly scavenger hunt evening. Hhmmmm.
I thought it would be fun. I have been wanted to try out a running group, I would like to find someone to prepare the marathon with… but at the same time told myself I don’t know anyone, not sure if anyone will run at my level, everyone else will know each other… all those little insecurities. I didn’t dare reach out.
Well, sometimes you just need to listen to signs that life is sending you… recently for Mother’s Day I got this running journal. Monday night I read this week’s quote : “I believe the most important single thing, beyond discipline and creativity, is daring to dare”. Maya Angelou
I took it as a sign. So I bit the bullet and sent a mail, confirming I would be coming on Thursday evening asking if I needed to bring anything. I immediately got this really great email back telling me they were really happy I was coming. It made me feel very welcomed. Usual stomping ground :
SO…. not sure where either of these adventures will lead me but I am glad I took these first steps. Often the hardest ones to take.
Ever been really happy you took that first step ? Where did it lead you ?
