Normandy & Marathon training progress

Things have really slowed down here in Europe, with summer vacation in full swing in France and in the neighboring countries. I didn’t have any travel, and work was a bit slow (for once !). Marathon training is in full swing.

I ran four times,  and although there was no long run on Sunday I had a time trial. As part of the Jeff Galloway training program, there are mile time trials (called the Magic Mile) regularly to see how you are improving, but also to help adjust the plan if needed and project marathon time.

During my training for the Paris marathon, I had started off with a mile time of 8:36 (it is pretty much running as fast as you can once you are warmed up), and finished at 8:18.  My Magic Mile time this past Sunday was 8:03 ! Woot woot ! A 30 second improvement in less than 9 months.

We have been having gorgeous weather this week, with not too many people out running :

I also made it to the gym for some upper body work.

Besides that, I saw my BIL who came to see us for a couple days. He is stationed in Africa so we don’t see them much. (the brothers look like deer caught in headlights, not sure why !)

The weather has been fantastic so we have been able to eat outside.

I am now on vacation, writing to you from a McDonald’s in Normandy (only place with wifi). We are spending a few days here, enjoying our summer home before leaving for Greece on Friday. We took a horse drawn carriage tour through the town of Verneuil Sur Avre on Sunday evening. The horses are called Percherons, they are from the region where we have our house.

And that’s a wrap.

I am linking up with Holly and Tricia at Hoho runs and Misssippipiddlin for their Weekly Wrap.

How is your summer going ?  Any vacation coming up ?

That is great you are seeing improvement in your mile! Look out NYC!

Normandy is beautiful, but then again, so are most of the regions in France.

  6. Wow you have gotten so much faster that’s amazing and something to be proud of. This heat is killing my runs!

I think the heat in Greece is going to be bad, but in France we have had pretty decent weather.

I followed the Galloway plan for my first marathon training but I didn’t completely understand that “Magical mile”. If I ran the mile as fast as I couldn’t I wouldn’t be able to finish the rest of my

Will you be doing the Disneyland Paris half marathon? Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

The MM is used to predict your expected time.
I am not doing the Disneyland Paris half in September because I have a wedding that weekend. Hopefully the year after !

Great job on the magic mile! It’s always nice to see improvement. Have the best time on vacay. I love Normandy and you know the Greek Islands are one of my faves. I may be in Ireland by the time you return. : )

It is so nice to see improvement.
LOVE Normandy too, though the weather is not always that great. Hot in Paris or cloudy in Normandy, neither is great.

The company my husband works for does not allow fall vacations so we take our big trips pretty early in the year. We do have a few long beach weekends still on the calendar. Congrats! That’s a great improvement in your Magic Mile. I heard about those years ago while training for my first Disney Half, but never tested myself. My fastest mile was clocked during an 8k race. Enjoy your vacation! Thanks for linking, Karen.

Long beach weekends are mini vacations to me. Anything that changes the daily routine.
How is your training going ?

I really need a vacation, but nothing on the horizon until summer is over. 🙁

Wow, you are doing great with your running! And I just had to chuckle at your posting from McDonalds. I must say, I didn’t realize how quaint Normandy is. Enjoy Greece! Very envious of your vacation.

Then you have something to look forward to, which I think is half the fun of vacation.
Yes, no internet in our summer home (more of a camp) so I need to drive 10 minutes to get on the internet.

A house in Normandy -how nice. Enjoy Crete. That should be awesome. I’ve been to Corsica & Greece but never Crete. Looking forward to your pics.

    No vacations- just weekend boating.
