Global Running Day

Happy Global Running Day to all you runners out there.  I am linking up with Kristin at Jonesin’ for a run, with a peak into my miles !

Why do I run ?

It is a long term investment in my health. It keeps my heart healthy, my stress under control and my weight down. In order to protect my knees, I am a fan of the Galloway run/walk method, especially for long runs. It is about the finish lines, not the finish times.

How do I plan to celebrate national running day ?

Not running. For the first time in ages, I have a pulled calf muscle, so I am taking things a bit easy at the moment. I walked 40 minutes, swam 35 minutes, lifted weights, planked.

Total miles this year ?

735 km, 456 miles. The most I have ever run in 5 months.

Big event on my calendar so far ?

I completed the Paris Marathon (my first) on April of this year, and the next big race on my calendar is NY on November 6th. In between the 2 races I have some funner races. One in Versailles and one in Central Park, within a week of each other. I just hope my lower leg will be on the mend.

Before I leave for a run, I must have…

Done a dynamic warm up. If I don’t, I will pay for it. My shins tighten up if I have not faithfully done high knees, heels to butt, ankle rotations… I have a routine which lasts 5 to 7 minutes and do it faithfully.

Do I track my miles, and if so, how?

Yes, ! I have just finished my first Believe journal and am getting ready to start my second one. I am not obsessive about tracking, but since I am a bit tad nervous about injury, I use it to make sure I do not up my mileage too fast.

Favorite running partner ?

No one ! I am a cat runner  through and through.

Cat runner !

Races I have run this year ?

Nice to Monaco Half Marathon in January and Paris Marathon in April.

Listen to your body, especially as you get older !

Passionate.

    I love your last piece of advice. You have to listen to your body to stay injury free. At the moment I am taking a little break and honestly it feels good. When I start training for my fall marathon next month, I want to be excited about it!

    Great advice but so hard to follow when your sanity seems to depend on running! I hope your calf appreciates all the rest you are giving it!

      I am so impatient that the second my calf feels better I will want to run. But I know I need to wait ! Not running is killing my sanity !

    I’m glad I wasn’t the only one not running yesterday. All the travel and the race the last month or so just took a lot out of me (and sitting in the rain for the concert didn’t help).

    I have gotten a lot better at listening to my body. Hopefully your calf will be better quickly.

      Sometimes we just need a break. I SOOOO want to run, but we have had major rains and major flooding, which makes it easy NOT to run.I have an exam next week and am seeing a sports doctor soon. But I am impatient to start running again.

    uuugh injuries….booo!!! I hope you feel better soon.

    For National Running day, I ran a 5k leg of the United Relay. It was hot and humid but I was glad to be apart of the event.
