My April Staycation – visits and activities

I had a great staycation.

On Easter  weekend my husband had to work so we stayed close to home. We had great weather so I sat on my balcony and read every morning and ate lunch outside.

I actually had time to read, go to the movies and rent some movies. Some highlights of the week :

I almost finished a book ! I have this really bad habit of starting but not finishing a book. I rarely have the time, then I forget the story, have to go back, etc. So I downloaded something easy & short on my Kindle : Harlan Coben’s “Six Years Already”. I had never read any of his books but so far really like it. I have about three quarters of it read.

We went to the movies : The Grand Budapest Hotel. We liked it but its not your typical American movie, kid of odd but pretty good. It had a great cast : Jude Law, Ralph Fiennes, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Tilda Swinton, to name a few. Teenage appropriate.

We rented a really funny movie : The Millers. I particularly liked the part with the spider and the baby….

We then went to my brother in law’s and sister in law’s for four days. They live in the Loire Valley.

Thursday : we walked around the city of Tours for a little window shopping. Funny statue ! My sister in law, her mother and our girls.

Friday : We visited the Beauval Zoo. It is by far the nicest zoo I have ever been to. The one thing that impressed me was the fur of the animals. Every, single animal looked as though it has been brushed that morning. Shiny coat, no scars, no bald spots, not dirty, no flies. There was no odor, very little animal droppings, no stale food hanging around. I was seriously impressed.

Its known for its two pandas. They eat bamboo for 14 hours a day. China actually rents the Pandas to the zoo for 10 years. The ‘rental fee’ is around 1m USD a year but I guess the return on investment is huge.

We also saw gorillas, koalas, monkeys, white tigers, lions, giraffes, elephants, panthers, and the most spectacular bird show I have ever seen. Over 200 birds participated.

What a lovely staycation! I had no idea that animals could be rented in such a way. It makes sense, I guess. Looks like a beautiful zoo, and those gardens! Mon Dieu! They don’t look real!

The gardens did not look real, I agree ! so much work must go into keeping them trimmed and green !
