Morning runs

I have been so lucky with the weather this fall, being able to run outside for my marathon training runs. This usually happens before work, when it is kind of dark / starting to get light. There are not many people out, so my safety comes first. This is a big city and caution goes without say.

So I usually run along a path / sidewalk at the edge of my usual park / along a road. It is a strait stretch of road and I run back and forth on it 2 or 3 times depending on what my training plan calls for.

So here is a look into what I have come across during my morning, week day runs over the past 6 weeks :

Bikes ! I share the route with a bike path, so people are going to work on their bikes, often with the Velib, a bike you can pick up in one spot and drop off in another.

Other runners, but not many and not often. The Parisian firefighters were out one day and I managed to snap a picture :

Junk. Monday evenings people can put out their “junk” that is picked up early Tuesday morning by the city to take to the junkyard. So, along one side of the path, there is sometimes some random stuff. Mattresses.

The Circus. As I run near a park / forest, there is also a fair ground. During the months of November and December there are circus companies who come (going to the circus is a popular outing end of year in France). They live in motor homes and you can see their circus in the background.

Random gym bag. Some poor guy forgot his gym bag on the side of the road one day. I felt really badly for him. People come and park to run and he must of left it on the side of the road when he got in his car.

Some really great sunrises :

Autumn. And of course fallen leaves this time of year :

The only thing I did not get a picture of yet is the dog walkers. There are quite a few but I haven’t got the courage yet to ask them for a picture. Don’t want to come off as crazy !

What do you come across on your morning runs ?

Karen you have a really nice path to run on! On weekend early mornings, I stay off the roadside as much as possible but when I’m on there inevitably I’ll come across a water bottle filled with pee. Eeeew!

That is one thing I have not yet come across. Here, people just go in the woods !

I really need to get up and run before work when it’s light. I would see wild turkey and a lot of rabbits.

Sheep and donkeys live on the road behind my neighborhood. I saw them this morning while cycling. The baby donkey born this spring has gotten so big! I occasionally see a rabbit in my own neighborhood. Oh, I saw a lady vacuuming her grass the other day.

I love seeing things grow and change, like the donkey. I also watched a house being built. However, have never seen anyone vacuuming their yard. LOL !

I always see weird stuff on the run. Once I saw 2 pairs of women’s underware and about 15 airplane sized vodka bottles laying along the side of the road. That gave my imagination plenty of work on the remainder of my run!
