Mid January thankfulness (weekly wrap)

Hello ! I love January. The days are getting longer, the sun is getting higher, we know that we are going towards spring. And its my birthday !

I was feeling particularly grateful and happy this week, for many reasons :

  • I had some great meals. I am doing the Runner Reset Challenge with Laura at Mommy Run Fast and it was inspiration enough to anticipate some healthy meals and meal plan. Instead of pizza on Friday night (which would have been the easy solution), I had left over quinoa + tuna + avocado + mashed sun dried tomatoes.

  • Great runs. We had rain Wednesday & Thursday but the sun came out for one hour at lunch on Thursday. There is a running God ! It was glorious.

  • Supportive colleagues. We don’t see much of each other, but we all happened to be in the office on the same day this week and got to connect over some similar issues we are having.
  • I was already planning a work trip to Brazil & Mexico in March, and I learned that I will continue on to Florida.  I hope to visit my parents for a couple days while I am there. I’ll be gone a long time but Florida ? In March ? Yeah, its worth being away from home for 2 weeks (although it will be towards the end of marathon training, but that is a different story !)
  • I got my hair cut & colored, which always makes me feel great
  • I received a holiday card from one of my childhood friends
  • I have slept like a baby (in large part due to the runner reset and cutting out gluten & sugar)
  • I spent Saturday night at home with my girls and husband watching Mamma Mia ! and eating in front of the tv (which we never do). My girls and I sing every song at the top of our lungs. That movie is a favorite of ours, right up there with Pitch Perfect.
  • I felt fantastic on my runs.
  • Colder January weather. The puddles were frozen on Saturday.

And finally… my husband prepared a surprise for lunch today. My daughter’s birthday is the 18th and mine is the 19th, so we celebrated.

The only thing I was unhappy about was that our resident guest (my BIL’s cat) knocked over a table and this happened : hours of puzzle work gone in 3 seconds.

    Great post Karen! So frustrating about the jigsaw puzzle. Leave it to a cat… Also cool that you have close together birthdays for a combined celebration. My husband and I are like that. We are three days apart! Happy mid-January! I’m thankful the days are getting longer.

    Happy Birthday 🙂 I love getting a new cut and color!
    You look great. I love all this happy.
    I am afraid my post is a Debbie Downer, I don’t even want you to read it lol
    That is pretty awesome you to get travel so much for work. I know being away from family isn’t easy, but how awesome to go all over the world.

      Arriving the 10th or 11th in Orlando then heading to Ft. Lauderdale the 13th. Not sure yet what my plans are but will keep you posted.

      BTW, I was in Sarasota a year ago March and FROZE my butt off. I never knew Florida could be so cold. Hope you have better weather ! (and go see the Dali museum if you like Dali)

    It looks like you had a wonderful week. But, the puzzle! Oh no! I hope you have a wonderful birthday and celebrate big! That is a lot of traveling but you can’t say no to Florida. I’m confident you will find a way to fit your training in too. I’ve also slept better lately, but I think it’s because the worrying about the marathon is now over. Thanks for linking with us, Karen.

      My daughter’s birthday is the day before mine, so mine has kind of gone unnoticed for 17 years now… but that’s ok !

    How sweet that your husband surprised you will a birthday lunch.You and your daughters look lovely in the photo. Sad about losing all that puzzle work. My family always does a Christmas puzzle or two when they visit for the holidays.

      Yes, it was a very difficult puzzle we had been working on for 3 weeks… I refuse to start it again ! Oh well, those things happen

    Happy Birthday to you and your daughter! Sounds like you have some great trips planned in the months ahead. A change of scenery may be nice for your runs at the end of your training cycle. That’s frustrating about your puzzle. I love my cat, but she gets into everything too.

    You have had a great week, you’ve done a lot better than I have on your foods too. Oh very cool you’ll be traveling to FL and get to see your mom! That is great. I have no doubt you’ll be able to get in your training runs while there.

    What a great week and Happy Birthday!

    I think travelling during training could be fun as hopefully you will still get your runs in and get to explore new places.
