Last minute thoughts before the marathon

Hello April ! As always, I am happy to catch up with DeborahCoco and Lynda and the rest of you for this month’s virtual coffee date. So grab a chair and let’s catch up ! (and you are forewarned….we will be chatting a lot about running !)

If we were having coffee, we would talk about the marathon, which is tomorrow ! So here are my final thoughts, less than 24 hours before hitting the starting line.

Weather. I really shouldn’t complain. I know. Everyone knows how much I hate the rain. Well tomorrow it is going to be around 65. That is darn hot. Considering I trained all winter in long pants, I still have not decided whether I should wear shorts or not. I am so worried about chafing. These wardrobe decisions will plague me until tomorrow I am sure.

I am 95% sure I will chose thin capris :

In addition to my running outfit, everything else is prepared. My husband will be meeting me several times along the way, so he will bring the baggies of fuel so I don’t have to carry everything.

Over coffee I would tell you how wonderful my husband and girls have been about this whole adventure…even if my significant other has put some pressure on me with regards to my time. He is definitely more worried about my finishing time than I am. LOL.

Over coffee I would tell you I have not yet OD’d on sweet potato and pasta, my staples for the past 4 days !

Over coffee I would admit I went back to the Running Expo today. I have gotten to know a French woman through Instagram who is my age, we have the same kind of cat, and we were both preparing our first marathon. So we have been following each other’s training and talking through social media. She lives in the south of France so came up to Paris today, with a friend who is also running the marathon. We met at the expo, spent the afternoon together and had so much fun. I of course had to go back and buy things I should have gotten Thursday. Run Jennifer Run made me do it !

If we were having coffee, I would tell you although I am starting to get quite nervous, I am also feeling pretty confident. I went back and read Sue’s race recap from 2015 and several other marathon posts I did last year at this time. Yeah, #Igotthis.

Over coffee, I would tell you how much support I have received.

THANK YOU to all my readers for the positivity, encouragement, well wishes, good vibes, advice, thoughts and comments. I am amazed at the support I have received through my blog and Instagram, from so many people I have never met in person. I had co workers call and write, I had friends on Facebook comment, my family in Africa called and of course my family in the US sent encouragement ! Even my podiatrist called. Seriously, the support has been amazing and I guarantee I will think of all of you tomorrow.

Good luck to everyone running a race tomorrow, and hope the Americans running the Cherry Blossom 10 miler will have decent weather !

Are you racing ? What would you like to chat about over coffee ?

I can’t wait. I’m more excited about your race than my own. You are so lucky that your family will be there to support you. What is your Number? Can I track you?

With those temps, I’d wear shorts & compression socks but you have to wear what you are comfortable with.

You’ll be fine. As the bracelet says – You got this!

My answer is probably too late, but my bib number was in my photo and you could have tracked it yes. It was a lot warmer than the temps you had for your race !

It always seems we train in one type of weather, and then when the big day arrives, it’s something totally opposite! I’d be in a skirt in those temps, probably. Give your family some bodyglide or whatever you use for chafing to have when they meet you, if you haven’t already.

I remember one run in HI where I took a travel sized tube of body glide with me. Since it was so humid there, I reapplied several times. No chafing.

That’s wonderful that they will have your fuel with them — make sure to have some on you, too, just in case you don’t meet (you just never know).

    At least that’s my $,02.

I think nervous & confident is a good combination! And I love that you were able to get together with your friend. Maybe you’ll be able to see each other at the start tomorrow? Sometimes that can help calm the nerves.

You have put in all the training. Now just trust it!

Finally I wore capris and it was perfect. Very little chafing ! And having people at several spots on the course was perfect. I loved having them there… and I looked forward to seeing them. Kept me going many times.

I’m so excited for you! I think the weather may turn Cherry Blossom into a “make the most of it” kind of run – with high wind warnings they are not having any pre- or post-race activities. I can’t wait to hear how awesome you do. 🙂

The weather you all had was crazy. At least it wasn’t raining. Wind + rain is the worst. Hope you were happy with your race.

I hope you have the most amazing time today! It’s great that you have connected with another runner, there’s a lot to be said for having someone with you, running it (even if you aren’t running together). I think the capris are a good shout if the weather in Paris is like it is here in Kent. It’s pretty chilly this morning!

I went with the capris and so glad I did, else the chafing would have been horrendous !

It was really hot but I decided on capris. Then shorts. Then capris. And glad I did. The chafing would have been horrendous with shorts!
