July

I can’t believe July is almost here…. one of my favorite months of the year. Summer has definitely arrived in France. We have been having fantastic weather for the past 6 weeks or so and it is continuing. It is supposed to be in the 90s in Paris this week !

July is going to go by really fast because I have quite a bit of travel for work, and we have a four day weekend for Bastille Day, July 14th. Here are just a few of the things I am looking forward to this month :

Summer salads. I usually just throw what ever I have on hand into it, being sure to include some kind of protein. As much as I love to cook, I am much less motivated when it is hot out.

Family. My brother, his wife and their children are coming to France at the end of July and I have yet to meet my second niece. So looking forward to it.

Maine on the Fourth of July. I have to travel to the US next week on business and am going to surprise my kids, who are spending the month with their grandparents, in Maine. I haven’t been in the US for the Fourth of July in probably 20 years ! So excited.

Racing in the US. I started running while living in France and have never done a race in the US. As I will be there for the Fourth, I have signed up for the LLBean 10K. It will be my first time with a race start at 7:30 as all races in France start much later. I will probably be a bit jet lagged but still looking forward to the experience.

A different routine. September to  June is rhythmed by the school year and extra curricular activities. In July and August everything comes to a stop, including all the extra curricular activities. So July is a month where we don’t have to be somewhere or have to do something.

Quality time with my husband. Both our kids are away for the month, so this means we organize our lives a bit differently. Dinners more often with friends, drinks on balcony after work, weekends away…. it is always a special month for us.

A four day weekend in our summer home. With the kids getting older, we don’t get away nearly as often as we would like. We always look forward to spending time there, just the 2 of us, in July.

Running outside. I take FULL advantage of the nice weather.

How can you not want to be outside in this ? :

That’s so great your kids spend the month with their grandparents! Yay for being in the US for the Fourth this weekend! We’ll be hanging out in the NH lakes region at my parents’ lake house. Can’t wait!
