I spend a lot of time (& money) on my skin

I come from a family with very thin and fair skin. There is some Irish in my blood and thus some red hair and freckles are part of my genetics. This means that I do not tan. I learned this very young, so I stopped trying.

Thin skin means wrinkly skin. This comes from my dad’s side of the family. I grew up looking at my grandmother, quite impressed with all those wrinkles. At the same time thinking I did not want to have that many when I am “older”.

So as I started getting “older”, I started wearing sunscreen, I rarely sit in the direct sunlight, and usually wear a big, wide rimmed hat. But you can not fight genetics.

So I admit it, I spend A LOT of time and money on taking care of my skin.

1. Cleansing twice a day ! I am obsessed with all the Neutrogena cleaning products. A creamier format in the evening, a scrub format in the morning, once a week a facial mask.

2. Don’t forget the body ! Shower cream, shampoo, deodorant, body cream… all Dove. Because the skin on the body is almost as important as the skin on my face !

3. Facial creams and foundations : this is where I spend my money. Day cream, night cream, serum, foundation, BB Cream. If you have not tried BB cream, I suggest it. It stands for Blemish Balm and is in-between a moisturizer and very light foundation. Great for weekends.

I would not think about a face lift, and I do not think Botox would be my thing. Even if I admit, once in a while I am tempted to ask the dermatologist about it, I don’t think I could stand the needles and I avoid putting any kind of “medicine” into my body if I can avoid it.

The skin is our largest organ, and I admit when I slather on my body cream every morning, I twinge a bit thinking about those chemicals but at the same time, smooth and moisturized skin makes me feel good, confident and healthy.

What is your skin routine ? What are your favorite brands ? How do you feel about face lifts and Botox ?

I definitely try to take care of my skin my cleansing twice a day. I also sometimes do at-home DIY facials and I even get professional facials every now and then. I love BB creams and tinted moisturizers. I also like to use thick night cream and eye cream. I also have the Oil of Olay version of the clarisonic brush, which does wonders. The things we do!

I have heard great things about the Clarisonic brush, but never tried it. I do a professional facial every now and then, also. Definitely worth the money !

You are loyal to your brands! That’s great that you’ve found a system that works for you. My skin has become very sensitive the past few years so I have a really minimal routine. I wash my face only at night (usually in the shower), I use a natural glycerin soap, and most of my products are phthalate, paraben, and fragrance free. I find that the simpler I keep it, the better my body reacts. I use a light moisturizer in the morning and a thicker one at night. I use a tinted moisturizer during the day unless it’s a special occasion. It has an SPF of 30 that I combine with a sunscreen that has SPF 30 as well ( I like to thin out the product a bit as it’s really thick). I know I need to get on the serum train because I need to prevent the wrinkles that are starting to form!
I really don’t think I could shoot chemicals into my face via Botox or anything else. I’ve been tempted, especially when I hear that if you do it younger you can prevent more wrinkles. But my husband loves my facial expressions and I would hate to mess with that.
