I come from a family with very thin and fair skin. There is some Irish in my blood and thus some red hair and freckles are part of my genetics. This means that I do not tan. I learned this very young, so I stopped trying.
Thin skin means wrinkly skin. This comes from my dad’s side of the family. I grew up looking at my grandmother, quite impressed with all those wrinkles. At the same time thinking I did not want to have that many when I am “older”.
So as I started getting “older”, I started wearing sunscreen, I rarely sit in the direct sunlight, and usually wear a big, wide rimmed hat. But you can not fight genetics.
So I admit it, I spend A LOT of time and money on taking care of my skin.
1. Cleansing twice a day ! I am obsessed with all the Neutrogena cleaning products. A creamier format in the evening, a scrub format in the morning, once a week a facial mask.
2. Don’t forget the body ! Shower cream, shampoo, deodorant, body cream… all Dove. Because the skin on the body is almost as important as the skin on my face !
3. Facial creams and foundations : this is where I spend my money. Day cream, night cream, serum, foundation, BB Cream. If you have not tried BB cream, I suggest it. It stands for Blemish Balm and is in-between a moisturizer and very light foundation. Great for weekends.
I would not think about a face lift, and I do not think Botox would be my thing. Even if I admit, once in a while I am tempted to ask the dermatologist about it, I don’t think I could stand the needles and I avoid putting any kind of “medicine” into my body if I can avoid it.
The skin is our largest organ, and I admit when I slather on my body cream every morning, I twinge a bit thinking about those chemicals but at the same time, smooth and moisturized skin makes me feel good, confident and healthy.
What is your skin routine ? What are your favorite brands ? How do you feel about face lifts and Botox ?
