Home sweet home

After 10 days of business travel over the past 2 weeks, I am finally home. It was a long trip, I slept in 6 different beds over 9 nights ! So I was thrilled to be in my own bed again.

My marathon has a 3 week recovery plan, so I got in a ton of walking and run/walking this week :

  • Monday : 6 K run/walk on the treadmill in the morning, and because I was bored in the evening, went and did another 6 K run / walk
  • Tuesday : 6 K walk
  • Wednesday : 5,5 K run/walk
  • Thursday : travel back to France
  • Friday : 6,5 K minute run/walk (OMG everything is so green !)
  • Saturday : 30 minutes upper body weights + 15 minute ab work at the gym, 2,5 K walk
  • Sunday : 12 K run/walk

With so much exercise and the time difference, I slept a ton this weekend. Otherwise, here are some photos from my week….

I have also spent some time thinking about adjusting my 2016 goals and my race schedule. I have a destination race scheduled for May 22, but have made no plans yet to go. At the moment, I don’t want to think much about traveling. While I love it, I am a bit traveled out.

    10 days is a long time to be gone, I usually get homesick in a week. You did awesome getting your workouts while you were on the road.

    Your country house – idyllic! After seeing your post, I wanted to eat our leftover pizza for dinner, but then I saw the zucchini. I didn’t have a lot of vegetables yesterday or today – mostly protein and other carbohydrates because of the 25K race I ran so zucchini it will be!

      Congrats on the 25K. I would have had a slice of pizza with zucchini on the side. We rarely eat pizza, but my brother’s home made was the best, they have a pizza stone. I probably at 4 or 5 pieces, which I never do !

        Fridays are pizza night at my house and that’s what I ate. I like to top zucchini with tomato sauce and cheese. Pizza and zucchini – such a good combination!

      Yes, there are some BEAUTIFUL places to run in the country, and especially lots of hills…which we don’t have much of in Paris.

    Homemade pizzas are delicious! I never make them though. I usually just get pizza hut. Sounds like you are recovery well. I get burnout too traveling alot! Sometimes it is just nice to enjoy being home after being away for awhile.

      Recovery is going well, though taking off for 10 days immediately after a marathon probably wasn’t the best idea. I am dragging now that I am back home.

    I’d definitely be traveled out if I were you. Traveling is tiring, especially international travel.

    Right now I’m trying to figure out how to prep for 2 trips (one including my half) in 2 weeks next month and not feel exhausted!

      As much as I love pizza, we don’t do it much, as I tend to steer away from gluten, but boy, was it amazing. Made with a pizza stone… to die for !

    It always feels so good to be back in your own bed after a lot of travel. That pizza looks so good! Now I need to make homemade pizza sometime this week for dinner.

    I always feel like all of the green comes out overnight once spring hits. You go to bed and wake up the next morning and poof! Everything is in bloom and super green. That house is SO cute! Is it for vacations, or do y’all spend whole seasons there?

      We use our house for weekends away mainly, we don’t go for longer periods of time. There is no internet access so my teenagers go stir crazy really.fast. LOL

    I used to travel a lot for work. It took it’s toll and I wasn’t even leaving the country! (And usually we got direct flights.) I like hotels and travel, but sometimes it’s nice to be back home. My work trips were so packed with meetings I never got to do anything touristy. That may make it better. Anywho, glad you’re back home! 🙂

      I can build touristy things in if I want, and usually do on longer trips because they are places I often will not go again… but usually I am just so motivated to get home. My husband and girls miss me as much as I miss them.

    Yes bright green with weeds that is! Looks like grass cutting season is here! So glad your back safe Karen. Sounds like you kept up with your recovery running while at the hotels too! I guess traveling for work is different than for fun. One reason I like traveling in my RV so much is I get to sleep in my own bed no matter where it’s parked.

      Yes, the RV is your own bed, it is like you take your home with you. I completely understand why you would love it.

    I know you are glad to be home. I find traveling exhausting, even though it’s for fun and rarely for work anymore (thankfully). I’m pretty tired just from our 3 days at the coast, and I consider that my second home. Oh yeah, I ran a half in the wind — maybe that has something to do with it. LOL. I love your country cottage. It looks peaceful. You’ve done great with your recovery. When will you begin your training for NYC? Will you use the same plan? Thanks for linking with us Karen!

      You are lucky to have so many races in your area and to be able to do them with Tricia / friends. I wouldn’t have the energy to drive that far on weekends. For my destination race in May I would need to fly then drive 100 miles… I think it is too much with everything going on.

      I haven’t decided yet about my training plan. I think I am going to work on speed for a couple months, then probably use the same training plan for NY. It protected my knees and kept me injury free, which is one of my primary motivations for choosing a plan.

    I like that my husband does races with me sometimes, but he doesn’t train very much (and walks like an arthritic penguin for a few days afterwards). That said, if/when we do run together, it’s like a constant game of leap frog…I think I have a pretty consistent pace (since I run so much more than he does), but he slows way down, then speeds up and passes me. Yes, I’m high-maintenance LOL

    First, love that house that is the cutest cottage love it!
    Between your race and then the traveling, you must be exhausted.
    I have to say, I am drooling over that pizza, OMG that looks amazing! I’ts been so long since I’ve had a yummy cheesy slice of pizza!
