Half marathon training : week 2

My half marathon is in 2 weeks, Easter afternoon. I have a training plan where I am running 3 days a week. The first week of training went great. Week 2 though was a total fail. It was a tough week in general and I just couldn’t fit in the necessary training.

Sunday : I flew back from Las Vegas on Sunday morning, having hardly slept in the plane so I was very tired when I got home at 11 a.m. After a 2 hour nap and lunch, I felt a bit better, had a bit more energy, so I went out, faithful to my training plan.

90 minute run @ 8,2 km/h. It was a good, long run.

From then, the week went crazy busy, like the previous few weeks ! Sunday, after unpacking and doing laundry, I repacked my bags, to fly out on Monday.

Monday : worked in the morning and flew to Prague in the afternoon. Got in around 6 p.m. and had time to walk around. I have been to Prague several times and love it.

I brought my gym things because I figured over the next couple days, I would get up early and get a run in on the treadmill. Well, life doesn’t always work out like we planned. There was no gym at the hotel ! Seriously ? I might be spoiled but for business travelers, there is always a gym, even a small one. Oh well. Adjust and adapt.

Tuesday : all day conference

Wednesday : conference and flight back to Paris, home at 10:30 p.m. Night with 3 hours of sleep.

Thursday :  up at 4:30 and out of the house by 5:45 to fly to Switzerland. I was home by 7 but needless to say, too tired to work out.

Friday : 11 hour work day. Too tired to work out.

Saturday : I had a 3 hour yoga class.

Sunday (today) : Finally ! got a run in today (which is technically the start of week 3). Speed work. Perfect weather conditions. And it gave me a kick in the pants to keep going ! I was not sure if I skip week 2 workouts and start with week 3 workouts, so I decided to continue on week 2 workouts and do them in order.

My feet & knees ? OK for the time being. My shins were a bit tight when starting, and my left heal has a very minor, nagging thing. I don’t want to describe it as pain, but I am still being careful.

It is now Sunday afternoon, and I had a wonderful family lunch, did some cooking and am now enjoying some tv, my kids and doing some blogging.

What do you do in your training plan if you miss a day ? Do the schedule in order or skip ?

What beautiful sights to admire during a training run. Perhaps people would say the same when I get to run in DC.

I’ve never been to Prague but I would love to go. I’ve also never done a three hour yoga class. What is that like?

three hour yoga class includes a large majority of breathing exercises…we do some poses but more meditation / breathing. It definitely teaches patience and focus.

Thank you ! Had a 90 minute run yesterday and I felt pretty good ! Just hoping it does not rain on the day of the race.
