Friday Five : what pops into my head while running

Hello everyone and hello Friday Five ! I was travelling last weekend, busy hiking and running, and took a few days off from blogging. Glad to be back, linking up with Courtney at Eat Pray Run, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run.

This week is a free theme and I have chosen “Five thoughts that pop into my head while running”, inspired by a recent post by Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner. As I prefer to run alone, it is me myself and I … so lots of crazy things go in and out of my mind, depending on people I see, things I see happen, the weather…. so here are some recent thoughts.

1. Didn’t I pass that person 5 times already ? I often run around a small pond, and see the same people.

2. Can you please keep your dog on a leash or else I will trip over it and it will not be my fault. There are a lot of little dogs in France and in the park people let them run. I am always afraid they will dash in front of me and make me fall. I definitely prefer when they are on a leash !

3. That guy is kind of spooky. I am always very cautious about where I run and what is going on around me… my imagination is probably a bit overactive, but I prefer safe over sorry.

4. Does my butt look like that ? I am not one to compare myself or my body shape to others but there are some really unflattering running pants out there….

5. That running group looks like they are having fun, maybe I should reach out and try a group ? Yes, I have yet to do this but it is on my to do list for September when groups start up again.

The weekend is just around the corner, yeah ! I signed up for a 10K in a small country town Saturday afternoon and am seeing friends Saturday evening I haven’t seen in a while.

What are you doing this weekend ? What goes through your mind when you run ?

Thanks ! It was hard picking 5 ideas… so much runs through my mind when I run.

I totally agree about the little dogs. There is one that often runs out on the path when it sees me ( it’s home is along the trail). Of course it’s owner doesn’t know it comes out but I am always worried I will either trip over him or he will start biting at my ankles as I run!

    • Karen - French Inspiration May 29, 2015 at 7:16 pm Reply

I have never been bitten, but it does happen…. unfortunately.

  3. Seriously the dog thing really bothers me! People just have long leashes and let their dogs run right up to you. It can be scary at times.

Cute post, I love recall doing a few of these on my blog and loved them. The dog thing for sure and I always check behind me every so often when running alone in quiet areas, I get creeped out.

Hahah this is an awesome post!! I feel the same way about people who look suspicious, and always spend the remainder of the run coming up with crazy plots and scenarios… 🙂

Thanks ! I try not to let my imagination get away with me, but I have been known to cross the street or turn around if I don’t feel comfortable.

I totally think crazy thoughts when I run. Every guy I see on a bicycle or walking through my neighborhood is a potential bad guy. And all the white panel vans? Just getting ready to snatch me. Never mind that there’s always a ton of construction in my neighborhood.

Great post! I had a run-in with someone’s dog last weekend (an American bulldog, which is similar to a pit bull), so I agree about the dogs! Thankfully, everything was fine, but there were a few moments there where I didn’t know what would happen.
I also notice other runners and wonder about their form. Sometimes I think it’s strange form and how could it be comfortable.
Other thoughts include, “Boy, my body feels tight today. Why are my heels bothering me? Knock it off, heels!:

I sometimes wonder about form also. Some waddle, some really pump their arms….

Love this theme. I am so ADHD when I run. I’m often doing crazy mathematics in my head trying to figure out how many 64ths of my workout is left. I make lists of things I need to do and also think about how flattering or unflattering the clothes of fellow runners are (the one that gets me the most are women running in extremely unsupportive sportsbras. How can they stand the flopping!?!)

I have so many random thoughts that pop into my head while running. Other people’s dogs always make me nervous for sure! One time I was running and some random guy that I passed just started running along with me. It really freaked me out, but he stopped after a little while. I love running groups. They are a great way to make friends and stay motivated. Good luck on your 10k and have a great weekend!

A girl did that to me once, but it was more of a “truth or dare” type situation. At least she told me why she was doing it ! I made her run faster ….

LOL on the unflattering running pants. I like it when others wear loud, bright patterns but I wouldn’t do it myself!

Fun post! I giggled at #4 b/c some ladies I see have see through pants and I think to myself… ” do they know?” or perhaps no one has ever told them.
