How was your week ? We have another three day weekend here in France, so my four day work week went by really fast ! I am linking up again with Courtney at Eat Pray Run, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run for this week’s Friday Five, Sharing the love. Be sure to check them out !
I had to think about the topic because 95% of the time I am a solo runner, but there was something that quickly came to mind, which is a race I do every year in September with my colleagues, La Parisienne. 2015 will be the 19th year of this all women race which has become increasingly popular, with this year’s edition hosting over 40 000 runners. The distance of 6,7km is accessible to almost anyone AND you run around the Eiffel Tower and along the Seine. Looking in front of me and behind me :
Our company provides a running coach starting in March, we meet really early before the race and always go out afterwards for a celebratory drink, joined by our significant others who have come to cheer us on. In the past few years there have been 50 of us running.
Sharing running love with fellow co-workers had its advantages.:
1. You meet people you normally do not interact with on a daily basis in your job.
2. You see people in a different light, and everyone has their own running challenges, stories and experiences…. which are often the same as yours
3. Everyone is equal on the running field. No hierarchy or org charts exist when you are running.
4. It makes work relationships more personal. Once you have stood in line for porta potties with someone for half an hour, it changes the dynamic.
5.You get to do things together you normally wouldn’t… like discover Paris at 7 a.m. on a Sunday morning… which includes the Paris metro, but also the moment that many photographers take pictures of models on the Trocadero esplanade with the Eiffel Tower in the background… because usually there are few people around at that time. Too bad for the model of this wedding dress, impossible for a shot sans people.
Here is the race recap from 2014, next edition September 13, 2015.
I always look forward to this race and encourage you to find colleagues to run with. You won’t regret it !
