Friday Five : Mexican food

I am linking up with Courtney at Eat Pray Run, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What, and Mar at Mar on the Run for this week’s Friday Five, which is a theme related to food & beverage.

Since I am in Mexico City this week, I have taken full advantage of the culinary options here and eaten all the food. It has been amazing. So I thought I would share just a few of the things I discovered, enjoyed, sampled or avoided !

#1 LOVED : Quesadillas. Filled with mushrooms, cheese or veggies.

#2 LOVED : Tortilla soup & guacamole (in the background with some crumbled cheese on it).

#3 LOVED : Watching tortillas be made. Roll the dough, press, work the dough again, press, put on the grill.

#4 DID NOT TRY : Tequilla ! I do not drink hard liquor, but I was impressed by the margaritas and sheer varieties of the local drink.

#5 HARD TO AVOID : Carbs & fried food. There are so many carbs between the tortillas, rice, beans…. and many of food is fried. Unfortunately, this results in many people being overweight.

I made sure to try everything, but was careful with the peppers …when I say they can be very spicy, it is an understatement. And I like spicy food !

What is your favorite Mexican dish ?

Looking at that food makes me hungry. Love Mexican food, from soft tacos, burritos, arroz con pollo, and quesadillas!

The only thing I remember eating in Mexico was guacamole! I do like tortilla soup so I would have liked that. Have fun!

I love tortilla soup! I eat pretty much anything Mexican (or really any of that style of food). It’s all yummy.

That’s one thing we really miss about not being in TX — we loved Tex-Mex, which is different from traditional Mexican.

So many things I miss! Quesadillas for sure. Migas.

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of Rick Bayless, but he grew up in Mexico City and has an amazing restaurant in Chicago. The food is inspired by the Mexican City treats like you featured in this post. Yummmmmm

No, have not heard of him, but it is possible that I could come to Chicago one day for work, so if I do, I will put this at the top of my list.

  7. I am all about the guacamole on everything! Hope you are enjoying your trip

That all looks so delicious! Freshly made tortillas are amazing. And I love guacamole, but Mike is allergic to avocados so I don’t get to eat it that much.

I would definitely have to try a margarita in Mexico! I also think it would be cool to compare their authentic food with what we Americans think is Mexican food.
