This week’s Friday Five link up with Courtney at Eat Pray Run, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run is about Indoor Workouts, definitely a hot topic in the winter, even more so when you see how much snow the East Coast got this week !
I don’t mind working out inside. While I have come to love running outside in almost all seasons, I think doing things inside offers a lot of variety. And when it is dark from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. in the winter, I honestly don’t have much choice ! Here are my go-to indoor workouts :
1. The pool. I have come to love the pool for variety, though my relationship with the pool is very recent, we are at a good place at the moment. Friday is my favorite aqua gym class.
2. The gym : weights
I started lifting weights to have upper body definition, and avoid flabby underarms. I lift once or twice a week, mainly free weights. Kettlebells have not come much to France yet, though I would love to try them. I love my Wednesday mornings weight workout, I go very early and practically have the whole place to myself. France is not an early riser country.
3. Jillian Michaels 30 Day shred. I like doing videos once in a while because it adds variety, works my muscles differently and gives me ideas of moves to do at the gym.
4. Alternating cardio at the gym : I often do 20′ /20′ /20′ : stationary bike / elliptical / treadmill. Once again, working my muscles differently and adding variety (see a theme coming through here ?)
5. Yoga. While I am not currently doing yoga, I did lots for about 7 years. I will definitely restart a yoga practice one day… I loved it, but got a bit burned out with the same teacher. So while I no longer do it regularly, I use many of the moves to retain my flexibility.
