Friday Five : Good things

Yeah for Friday ! In France we have a 3 day weekend, getting Easter Monday off. I am going to need it, as it will be my recovery day after my half marathon on Sunday afternoon. Excited but not fully ready (are we ever ?).

This week’s Friday Five theme is ” good things”.  Thanks again to Courtney at Eat Pray Run, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run for the appropriate, seasonal, positive theme! Don’t forget to check them out !

I have been a bit stressed at work. A lot stressed at work actually, but I always try to see the positive side of things… I am a half glass full kind of person. So I looked back over the week and picked 5 good things that happened, made me smile, warmed my heart, made me feel good about myself. Its sometimes the very small things that count the most :

1. Helping my daughter fill out an application for a summer job. It reminded me of my first job, and also reminded my that even if they are growing up, they still need us once in a while.

2. Receiving a compliment. A short email saying that was a great meeting, a really interesting presentation, or you are doing a great job… it goes a long way people !

3. Connecting with past colleagues. I hadn’t seen several colleagues for a while and we got together one evening this week for a drink, as one of them is leaving the company. It was great connecting with such wonderful people.

4. Mastering technology. We have installed lync in my office and it is so great. One of the functionalities is calling your contacts through the computer (through internet)… and it works great instead of sending an email. So much more personal. Of course it has many other functionalities that I am also discovering but the fact that you don’t need to pick up the phone, select a contact, look for a number. So practical.

5. Peppers and asparagus. I have eaten roasted veggies every day this week. With fish, meat, eggs… pure heaven.

I had just made roasted veggies today. So good! You are never too old to need your parents help/advice. I call mine on a regular basis and I haven’t lived at home for many years.

What do you put in your roasted veggies ? Is there a combination you prefer ?

I try to remember how much I appreciate compliments and pay it forward. We have Lync but don’t have the voice features! So, we can use it for instant messaging or wwebinars.

A small compliment can make someone’s day. I wish I remembered to give them more often.

Where are you in France. I lived in Paris for a semester and loved it! How great to receive a written compliment. Compliments go a long way for sure! Happy running and good luck at your half marathon!

I live right outside of Paris, and have for 23 years. Most people who do study in France love it. Glad you had a good experience.

Always good to get a compliment like that. That’s why I always try to make those comments to others. #5 just makes me hungry though.

Getting a compliment always reminds me to give one, and give more than one… it goes such a long way to boost someone’s day.

I still have a long way to go before having to help my boys with job applications. I’m trying to find summer camps that’ll take an almost two year old for a week! Just joking, but as soon as he turns four he’s off to camp for a week!

I always thought that summer camps for kids were great. It teaches them independence and gives parents a break. When my kids were younger I sent them to the US for 4 weeks to spend time with my parents… kind of a summer camp ! Now they just want to be with their friends.LOL
