Friday Five : Fun facts about me & life in France

Now that life is relatively back to normal, I am excited to be joining Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup! Because I am a bit behind on things, I am going to do a post from an earlier November theme, 5 things you may not have known about me.

  1. I grew up in Maine but have been living in Paris, France since 1996 when I moved here out of college. I am definitely a big city girl and LOVE Paris and Europe, but Maine will always be home. I was there last week visiting my parents and fully enjoyed the fall weather and foliage.20161111_09350020161001_100754
  2. I have run for over 10 years, but my first half marathon was in April 2015, and since I have done several, but also 2 marathons in less than a year, my most recent being New York.(I just noticed the guy in the back of this photo. Did he actually run a marathon in what looks like his leopard underwear ??? WTH ?)20161106_160831
  3. I have double nationality and thus I vote in both the US elections and France elections. Actually, wanting to vote was the primary reason I took on French nationality about 15 years ago now.
  4. I grew up with dogs but am a cat person. We smother our British shorthair with love. His name is Faust. And since we live in an apartment, a dog is not the best option.2014-04-05 11.17.29
  5. If I had to pick only one treat that I could eat for the rest of my life, it would be ice cream. Though French bread comes a close second, ice cream is my first pick.

Tell me one fun fact about you !

Are you a cat person or a dog person ?

When did you start running ?

We are a dog family, although my daughter has cats. Love your pictures of Paris and Maine – the falls colors are spectacular.

The fall has been spectacular, on both sides of the ocean.

I grew up with cats and dogs although cats were my fave. Until I became allergic. Ugh. Faust is a beauty and reminds me so much of a cat I had as a kid.
OMG the leopard! I cannot even imagine what some people are thinking. Maybe he lost a bet. Paris and Maine are two gorgeous places!

LOL, maybe he did lose a bet or maybe he just thinks he is the hottest man on earth. Sorry dude you are not my type even if you do run !

I’m a both person! I grew up with cats but now have a dog.

The man in your marathon photo is so funny. People wear the funniest costumes at races, although I’m not sure if his is a costume or not….

Not sure it is a costume. Not many people were dressed up.

That guy in the back ground in the underwear is too funny. Was it that hot out that day? Maybe his shorts were chafing him……lol

It was a little cold and chilly once the sun started going down. A bit of Wind too but I still can not understand how someone could run like that.

I am, actually, both a dog & a cat person. In fact, I’m just an animal person period. Why it never occurred to me to be a vet growing up, I don’t know, although I actually think I wouldn’t enjoy it.

Ouch to the man running a marathon in his speedos! I guess he didn’t have to worry about nipple chafing. 🙂

I never could have been a vet. Poor animals.
Yes, no nipple chasing, definitely the positive side of things. I didn’t even notice him until I looked at my pictures again yesterday. How can you miss that ?

We are invited to Thanksgiving by an American friend every year, but of course we don’t get the day off. And we celebrate it in the evening after work, so it isn’t really the same thing. And not football. No family games. No cold weather. The ovens are so small here that he has to order a turkey and have the butcher cook it.

What an interesting photobomb! Congrats on NYC!

Any tidbits you could share with me comparing US to France elections/politics?

    • Karen - Fit in France November 18, 2016 at 6:42 pm Reply

The French presidential élections are starting soon and I just hope it is not a circus like it was in the US. Shouldn’t be. Thank God.

  9. Darlene November 18, 2016 at 3:08 pm Reply

We would definitely get along. I am a cat person – I have 4.

I love the city (NYC) but do enjoy the scenery of upstate NY.

Ice cream is favorite food for sure. If only French bread in the US tasted like bread in France.

We would so get along ! too funny. I would love another cat but its a lot of work….

Is it even in the rules that you can run without a shirt ? That is what gets me the most I think. Or maybe he just took it off ?
