Friday Five : Five random facts about me

Its Friday ! How was your week ? Mine was busy.. out three evenings, which is a lot but I caught up with lots of friends I hadn’t seen in a while.

Its time again for Friday Five and I am hooking up with Courtney at Eat Pray Run, Cynthia at  You Signed Up for What and Mar at Mar on the Run where the theme of the week is five things about me.

I have chosen some very random things, so you are forewarned.

1.  I have absolutely no talent when it comes to interior decorating and I hate picking out furniture, linens or colors for the wall. I usually wait for my mom to come and we decorate together.

This is one of my biggest nightmares :

2. I grew up in Maine. I loved it, I loved having four seasons, water skiing in the summer, sledding in the winter. I could not have asked for a better childhood. (thanks mom for the photo)

3. But I am a city girl at heart. I went to school in Boston and now live in Paris.  I love the people, the subway, the constant stimulation.

4. I moved to Paris over 22 years ago to work “internationally“. I work for an international company and in the past year have travelled to China, Switzerland, Germany, the UK, Belgium, Istanbul, Budapest, the US. In the past week at work I have been in contact with people from Hungary, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Spain, Germany, the UK, South Africa, the US, Sweden and Australia.

5. I spend a lot of money on face cream. I have really thin skin (which means wrinkly). It is probably vain, but I don’t want wrinkly skin. I know I have to accept my age but I can still easily spend 100 dollars on a small jar of cream. This is only a sample of what is in my bathroom at the moment :

I’m so jealous you grew up in Maine! When I lived in PA my husband and I would vacation there every summer. Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park is one of the most beautiful places on earth!

That’s a lot of travel! Maine-ers seem to be interesting people (my old boss at work, Joan Benoit Samuelson). My mom was into decorating and I’m not – I can appreciate what other people do but have no interest in doing it myself. 🙂

    Have a good weekend!

In decorating I now stick to all neutral colors with a splash of something bright. Usually does the job.

What a beautiful picture of Maine. I hope to make it out there this year when I visit my sisters in Boston. So nice that your job has taken you to so many different cities!

Maine is so beautiful. I spent a few days there back in 2011 and really loved it. I find that most of the state is still pretty wild and forested, which is so nice to see after all the massive developments in other parts of the country.

Do you speak other languages besides English and French?

If you love the outdoors, Maine is great. And yes, not as urbanly developed as the rest of the East Coast. I only speak French & English. No other languages.

What a beautiful picture of your home in Maine!
I had no idea you traveled so much for work! Do you find it exciting at all or is it like any other work travel?

Hi Stephanie. That’s not my home, just a picture of typical Maine. And I travel in decent conditions to great cities, so I actually love it.

I’m right there with you on the lack of interior decorating skills. It really don’t have a knack for it. I’d love to live in Europe. My husband and I are avid cyclists and we were in Europe last summer for 3 weeks – Luxembourg, Italy and France and it was spectacular.

It’s not vain to not want wrinkly skin. I feel ya on that.
I’m not very good at decorating or interior design either. We just moved to a new house and I’m dying to dig into some paint samples, but I lack creativity on this level. I would love to hire an interior designer to do it for me.

When moving into a place I have discovered there are 2 strategies. Either wait a while before doing anything, to figure out what you want. OR, paint everything in neutral colors right away because if you don’t do it quickly, its the kind of thing that gets pushed back. I also suggest doing only one room at a time. Less overwhelming.

Lifelong water skier here! The Maine pic is so pretty. I’m right with you on the moisturizer. Let’s not accept our age! It’s really my only splurge. I’m hooked on Estee Lauder.

Estee Lauder works. At the moment Gatineau, Clarins and Lancome are my go to brands. I always mix it up.

Can I just say how jealous I am of your international life? Do you ever miss the states?

I actually don’t miss the states that much. As I usually go once or more a year for work, that give me my needed American dose. I was there beginning of January though and for some reason I was very nostalgic. Not sure if I would go back. Maybe one day though I LOVE Paris, LOVE Europe and LOVE everything international.

I loved reading your random facts! I love interior decorating, but I always overthink everything! I also LOVE Maine! We lived in New England (NH and RI) for 6 years and I miss it. Maine is one of my favorite places in the world. My husband went to school in Boston as well (Boston College.) You are so lucky to live in Paris and be able to travel to so many cool places!
