Friday Five : Fitness inspirations

Welcome October ! I love this month. Cooler days, foliage, great running conditions. I haven’t been as regular with my blogging as I would like to be this fall because I started a new job this month. But I have been trying to be faithful to Friday Five with Courtney, Mar and Cynthia who always have such great themes.

This week’s theme is Fitness Inspiration. People inspire me. Normal, everyday people.

1. My mom. She discovered exercise in her forties and now golfs, walks, does yoga, some weights, some form of exercise everyday. She has no health issues and looks 20 years younger than she actually is.

2. My dad. My dad has exercised for over 50 years. Basketball, racquetball, golf, and walks four miles 5 days a week. Similar to my mom, he has no health issues and looks 20 years younger. If I am even half as healthy as they are when I hit 70, I will be very happy.

3. Bloggers. Any time I need inspiration I just turn on the computer. I recently did a post about blogs I am currently loving. I discover new blogs all the time … I learn something new, see things from a different perspective and get all kinds of great fitness ideas. The fitness world in the US is more evolved than in France, so following US blogs is the best way to keep up with the latest trends. Thanks to all of you for inspiring me and of course, a special note to our three hosts :

4. Friends. I have several friends my age who continue to exercise, eat well, limit their drinking, don’t smoke… just live generally healthy lives and set great examples for their kids. Lori, Liz, Kathy, Kathryn, Mimi, Missy, Lyn….If they can do it, so can I.

5. Racing. I don’t race to win, but race for the atmosphere and camaraderie. A big race in Paris in September inspires my fall season : La Parisienne.

That’s so cool that your parents are so active and have been for a long time. What a great example for you and others and helps them be around longer for you to enjoy spending time together.

    Happy Friday!

My mom started exercising later in life. It just goes to show that no matter when you start, fitness will positively impact your health.

Karen, I love these pictures of your parents – they look fantastic! Definitely inspiring, since we are building a great base of fitness and recreation for ourselves to keep us spry as we age, right? Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful inspirations and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks Tara. I sincerely hope I look half as good as my parents do when I turn 70. It goes to show that an investment in your health really does pay off.

Parents are such a great inspiration! I love that they’re on your list.
I love races as well, and I have to say, if I was beginning a race within view of the Eiffel Tower, that would be even more inspiration!

When you see the benefits your parents have gotten from exercising, I agree that is motivational. My mother is the opposite – she does not exercise at all — compared to my father, and I can see what a toll it has taken on her. She does not have half the energy my father has and is on several medications. It’s a great reminder to me to keep moving and stay active…

Its never too late to start exercising and we can all be an inspiration to someone… maybe your healthy habits will rub off on your mom one day…

Great conversation…I loved walking with Aunt Mona when we were in Florida together….I had to keep up with her :). Seeingg the benefits that your parents have experienced with exercise only gives me hope that I will look that good and have that energy at 70. Exercise and healthy eating has taken on a new meaning for me since my cancer diagnosis. Thanks for your blogs …I really enjoy them. Hope your new job is going well!

Thanks Tammi ! Glad you are feeling better and that mom inspires you too.
