I was in the US last week for work, so I took the opportunity to fly to Maine and spend the weekend of the Fourth with my family and my kids who are staying with my parents for the month of July.
In my Friday Five Fourth of July post, I was looking forward to the Maine weather, the ocean, family, friends & racing. Well, I managed to get it all in. Be prepared for a photo dump… so much to tell, I have tried to keep it short and to the point.
On Friday, after some relaxing, I spent the afternoon with my girls, doing some shopping. My sister in law had given me a list of things she wanted so we were busy running from store to store trying to find what we needed.
Saturday morning was my LLBean 10K race I was up at 4:15 a.m. and out of the house by 5:30. After my race (recap coming soon), I headed over the the golf course to pick up my father. While I was waiting, I ordered a drink and someone said “Karen, what are you doing here ? “ Whoa ! It was my uncle. One of those weird moments where you are not expecting to see someone there so your brain has to reconnect the dots… so we sat and chatted while waiting for my father to finish.
Then we were off, going to meet my mother and second daughter for lunch at Paul’s Marina in Brunswick, a marina where my eldest daughter is working for the month. This is her first job and we wanted to see her in action. So she made us sandwiches and hauled lobster while we enjoyed the view. Our friends then took my second daughter and I out for a ride on the ocean.
On Sunday, I went for a walk with my mom and my aunt along the “Rail Trail” which runs along the Kennebec River. If you are ever in the Augusta, Maine area, this is SO NICE. It used to be a railroad, which is no longer in use, so they built a walking / biking path and it follows the river. We then spent a good part of the day chatting with more friends & family who stopped by, and playing cards. That evening my BFF from high school came up and we spent the evening together.
Monday I worked from my parents before heading back to Boston for a flight back to Paris. It was a fantastic weekend, and everything I was hoping my Fourth of July weekend would be. I love Maine in the summer, I love seeing my family and the experience for my girls is priceless.
I am linking up with Tara at Running n Reading so be sure to check her out as well as the other bloggers.
How was your weekend ?
