Wow, vacation week one gone by already. We spent last weekend in Paris then left Monday for the South Eastern part of France, Basque country. We were quite busy and did something each day , but I managed to get in a lot of exercise. Luckily because we ate out way too much for my taste.

Sunday : 15 km long run in my usually stomping grounds

Tuesday : 6,5 km around a cousin’s home near Agen. Lots of hills. Broke in my second pair of running shoes.

Wednesday : 6,5 km in the small coastal town where we were staying

Friday : 12 km run along the coast in St. Jean de Luz. I ran further but since my watch died as I was heading home, not sure what final distance was. #runnerproblems

I felt really good about getting in four runs. I am hoping it offset some of the (over)eating I did. Here is just some of what I ate.

For an appetizer, my husband’s cousin is cutting a ham that he had prepared with special spices :

Tapas in St. Sebatian, Spain.

Basque cake (regional specialty) :

Veal axoa (pronounced a-o-sho-a), which is minced veal cooked with peppers and local spices :

Monk fish :

We arrived in Arcachon yesterday (about 45 minutes south of Bordeaux) where we will be spending the next 2 weeks, relaxing, visiting with family, running ! and eating a home made meals, as we have rented a house and are no longer in a hotel.

Did you have a good weekend ? What is on your running agenda ?

Tapas is a Spanish dish, where you pick and choose several small things to eat. Its fun because you can taste a lot of different things. You just need to go to the counter, inside the bar / restaurant and pick what you want. They put it on your tab. Fun way to enjoy Spanish food and you decide what and how much you want to eat.

Thanks for the link up !

What lovely places you are running! I tend to run more on vacation just to counter all the seafood I usually eat. Vacations can get a little hectic in my world and that early morning run helps me stay calm. Your food pics are making me hungry! I would love a piece of basque cake right now with my coffee. Thanks so much Karen for linking with us today. It is truly appreciated.

Those look like beautiful places to run! I love running on vacation too. It’s a fun way to experience new places. I don’t think that I’ve ever heard of basque cake, but now I want to try it!

The coast and coastal trails are one of my favorite places to run. I find it almost therapeutic with the water crashing and wind…
